Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Laboratory Technician II at Mt. Hope Family Center will be working on research studies to collect psychological and biological research data. Research studies are related to examining the impact of stress, trauma, and child maltreatment on mental and physical health among children and adults. The position requires experience conducting research with families from diverse backgrounds.
Schedule:
40 Hours/wk; Varies some evenings and weekends as needed
**Laboratory Technician II** will:
+ conduct a variety of assessments with families (adults and children), including interviews, surveys, and physiological measurements.
+ contact participants and schedule visits; maintain good relations with participants and address any questions or concerns.
+ track and manage data; maintain project spreadsheets indicating what data has been obtained and when; prepare reports on recruitment and enrollment.
+ assist with recruitment and retention of study participants, this includes regularly driving in the community.
+ complete blood draws from adult and child participants, basic health assessments (e.g., blood pressure, anthropomorphic measurements) and assisting with MRI scans.
This position requires accuracy and attention to detail. Applicants must demonstrate strong interpersonal, oral communication, and writing skills. Applicants must be trained, or willing to be trained, to perform phlebotomy and assist with MRI scans.
Familiarity and comfort with Excel, ACCESS, and other databases, and statistical software such as SPSS, are preferred. Transportation of research participants to and from the Center, transporting biological samples to URMC labs, and recruitment in the community using personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed).
General Responsibilities:
+ Conduct research sessions with individuals (60%)
+ Assist with recruitment of participants for the study (20%)
+ Enter research information into database (20%)
+ All other duties as assigned
Requirements:
+ Associate’s degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
+ Clean background check and driver’s license
