Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty three colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community, currently enrolling 7,000 students in degree programs. Students represent 105 countries around the world! MEC students obtain Associate degrees in 8 fields, and Baccalaureate degrees in 18 fields. They are instructed by over 208 Full-time dedicated faculty members who must maintain a portfolio of scholarship and research. To meet the needs of its students, the College offers courses and programs at various times, is growing their online program offerings, and in offsite locations. The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research.
The College Laboratory Technician (CLT) in the Nursing Department will provide support to the teaching faculty, with clear administration lines to the Senior CLT, course coordinator (or the designee), and the department chairperson/deputy. The CLT is expected to conduct himself/herself as a member of a team; to exert cooperative effort; and to exhibit a pleasant and helpful attitude.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
- Assisting faculty during laboratory and class sessions.
- Conducting practice labs for students, providing appropriate reading/audiovisual materials and assisting students in mastering technical skills.
- Maintaining records of student utilization of practice labs and communicating with faculty regarding dexterity status of referred students.
- Preparing and maintaining appropriate laboratory equipment and all patient simulators' supportive equipment for use by faculty and students in classes and lab.
- Disassembling, inspecting, and cleaning all patient simulators, associated equipment and peripherals after use by faculty and students following manufacturer's recommendation guidelines.
- Contacting vendors for repair work of equipment and following-up on parts orders.
- Maintaining stockroom, taking periodic inventory, and recommending purchase of new and replacement materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Assisting in the maintenance and security of non-disposable and disposable equipment.
- Participate in departmental recruitment activities, college and community health fairs as appropriate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Current license to practice as a registered nurse in New York State.
- Associates Degree in Nursing; Bachelors Degree desirable.
- Clinical Experience.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and experience in instructional technology.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and industry representatives

$64,086 - $69,517
