    **Pay Range:** $211.05 - $240.38 per hour

    Summary:

    The Senior Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer (SVP CNO) of Rush University System for Health is a member of the executive leadership team and is responsible

     

    for supporting the organization’s mission and vision and deliver excellence in patient care, patient safety, quality and

     

    service delivery.

     

    The SVP, CNO is pivotal in driving the strategic vision and operational excellence of our health system, clinical business

     

    subsidiaries, and joint ventures. This role will help steer the systemization and achieve standardization in nursing

     

    excellence to create innovative clinical practice models that contribute to high quality patient care across the system.

     

    The SVP, CNO will serve as a transformation catalyst that will set Rush University System for Health as a top provider in

     

    patient care & safety and employer of choice.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Participate as an active member of the Executive Leadership Team to carry out the mission, vision and values of

     

    Rush and to drive overall business results and brings high level business acumen, creativity and strategic thinking

     

    that will enhance service delivery and market competitiveness.

     

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive systemwide nursing strategy that aligns to the system’s purpose and key

     

    objectives.

     

    • Lead and/or participate in governance and executive leadership boards, committees, councils and task forces, as

     

    requested to ensure business decisions are aligned with clinical and nursing practices.

     

    • Provide alignment for a successful development of the system nursing leadership focused on the success of the

     

    system’s quality, patient care, clinical growth, and financial goals.

     

    • Foster an adaptive culture that embraces innovation and continuous improvement while leading and managing

     

    change initiatives within each nursing division.

     

    • Serve as a leader and catalyst for identification and implementation of technology that directly improves nursing

     

    satisfaction and improves patient care.

     

    • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with physicians to set the leadership tone for their relationships with

     

    the nursing function throughout RUSH.

     

    • Collaborate with physicians and others at every opportunity to enhance clinical care and satisfaction of the

     

    patients.

     

    • Partners with nursing and clinical leadership to ensure that patient care is delivered according to industry best

     

    practices, regulatory standards, Joint Commission standards, Magnet standards, etc.

     

    • Contributes to the establishment of a learning environment and infrastructure that is conducive by providing

     

    educational and research experiences to students, residents, fellows, faculty and staff.

     

    • Collaborate with leaders to ensure effective staffing and optimal human resource performance to improve

     

    retention, plan for shortages and optimize productivity while still providing optimal patient care.

     

    • Lead and contribute to a comprehensive long-term workforce development plan with academic partners to meet

     

    the future needs of the system and its health care delivery model.

     

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive nursing strategy focused on standardized processes, policies and

     

    procedures as indicated for the care practices and patient population across the system.

     

    • Serve as a key advocate for nursing staff and patient care needs within the organization and the broader

     

    healthcare community.

     

    • Represent the organization in professional associations and at industry events to promote nursing excellence and

     

    innovation.

     

    • In coordination with nursing leaders throughout the system, introduces strategies that build credibility and trust

     

    throughout the system.

     

    • Promote system integration of evidence-based research into practice.

    • Lead the evolution of nursing practices within the inpatient and outpatient services that maximize excellence in

     

    achieving high reliability in safety, resilience, and error reduction.

     

    • Develop an effective process to evaluate leader competency, and ensure a workplace where shared decisionmaking, accountability, autonomy and engagement systemwide, is evident.

    • Partner with stakeholders to transform care delivery models that focus on high quality outcomes and delivery of

     

    safe patient care.

     

    • Build systems of accountability and decision-making within the clinical division of the system to support the short

     

    term and long-term goals for the system.

     

    • Support and foster the continued development of RUSH’s mission in teaching and research, with its

     

    translational/clinical focus.

     

    • Ensure the integration of the findings of current research into the policies and procedures governing the provision

     

    of services and care

    Required Job Qualifications

    • PhD (or actively pursuing) or equivalent terminal degree required, healthcare discipline preferred (DNP).

    • At least five years of experience as a senior nursing leader in a multi-site or teaching hospital organization

     

    required, preferably an academically affiliated teaching hospital or academic medical center.

     

    • At least 15 years of experience in progressive leadership positions.

    • Previous experience working for a multi-site and matrixed organization.

    • Experience in leading or participating in a significant transformation of an organization’s culture and approach.

    • Experience in a major urban, competitive environment is a plus.

    • Demonstrated ability to consistently meet or exceed challenging financial goals.

    • Strong knowledge of inpatient and outpatient operations.

    • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.

    • A visible and strategic nurse executive with a successful history in the development of nursing leadership programs

     

    that support the standardization and advancement of the nursing practice, including the creation and execution of

     

    best practice clinical care models.

     

    • A system thinker who collaborates across functions to achieve organizational goals, with demonstrated outcomes

     

    in decreasing cost of care while increasing quality, safety, patient satisfaction and nursing engagement.

     

    • An ability to effectively work in a complex environment, gaining consensus to make informed decisions across the

     

    full continuum of care.

     

    • A strong consensus builder with a successful record of developing partnerships among multiple stakeholders, to

     

    include physicians, nursing staff & leadership, and external stakeholders.

     

    • Knowledge in and support of shared governance models and philosophy.
