    Job Summary

    The Clinical Pharmacist II will be responsible for assisting with the research, development, and maintenance of clinical pharmacy programs, including clinical initiatives that impact drug utilization, clinical education and staff development, management of appropriate drug utilization, drug spend analysis, and quality improvement activities related to pharmaceuticals. This position will assist in the oversight of daily operations of the Pharmacy and Formulary department. Participate in care management as a member of the Interdisciplinary Care Team, and will perform medication assessments for members and for Medication Therapy Management participants. Assist with conducting oversight audits and focus on continuous monitoring activities.

    Duties

    Responsible for the daily operation and decision-making process pertinent to clinical pharmacy programs.

     

    Provide expertise during Pharmacy Quality of Care (PQOC) meetings and partner with contracted Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) on formulary management requirements to ensure members receive therapeutically appropriate and cost-effective medication therapy. Educate providers on the utilization of the formulary and protocols.

     

    Participates and provides representation of the Pharmacy Clinical Services Unit at Internal and External meetings / workgroups and acts as the PBM point person for Clinical Programs.

     

    Assist in auditing the PBM, subcontracted plans, and medical groups.

     

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D)

    Experience

    Required:

    At least 4 years of pharmacy experience or 1 years of Pharmacy Residency with 1 year of Pharmacy experience.

     

    Skills

    Required:

    Working knowledge of computers

     

    Team player with outstanding communication skills (verbal and written).

     

    Aptitude in problem-solving and decision-making.

     

    Strong professional ethics.

     

    Solid knowledge of drug administration and health & safety guidelines.

     

    Knowledge of the processes and methods to collect, evaluate, prepare and submit information for Adverse Event (AE) reports of post-marketed products; ability to write reports following relevant guidelines and submit them to regulatory agencies.

     

    Knowledge of principals related to pharmaceutical preparation and practices (formulas, rules, working processes of medicine preparation); ability to apply this understanding appropriately to ensure the secure, effective and proper use of medication.

     

    Knowledge of and ability to ensure that delivered drugs and pharmaceutical services are effective, efficient and integrated with ethics considerations, legal requirements and professional standards.

     

    Knowledge of and ability to prepare, release and distribute drugs and utilize the drug distribution system to ensure the safety, accuracy and quality of supplied products.

    Preferred:

    Bilingual in one of LA Care Health Plan’s threshold languages is highly desirable. English, Spanish, Chinese, Armenian, Arabic, Farsi, Khmer, Korean, Russian, Tagalog, Vietnamese.
