What are we looking for?
The Community Coaching DSP provides one-on-one direct support to individuals with disabilities to promote skill development, independence, and community engagement in accordance with Virginia DBHDS regulations on Community Coaching services. This role is highly flexible to ensure that individuals receive support during the hours their Community Coaching service authorization is approved for, maximizing their opportunities for meaningful participation in the community. The DSP will work with individuals in community-based settings to enhance their ability to navigate and integrate into their chosen environments.
Your overall essential responsibilities will be the following:
+ Implement person-centered supports tailored to the individual's strengths, goals, and preferences outlined in their Individualized Service Plan (ISP).
+ Facilitate community engagement opportunities, including volunteer work, recreational activities, educational experiences, and employment-related tasks.
+ Meet with individuals at flexible times that align with their approved service hours to maximize their participation in Community Coaching services.
+ Assist individuals in developing and maintaining independent living and social skills, such as money management, using public transportation, safety awareness, and self-advocacy.
+ Provide safe and reliable transportation to and from community activities, ensuring adherence to individual needs and safety protocols.
+ Monitor and document progress, challenges, and outcomes using appropriate data collection methods, including behavioral and specialized support plans.
+ Recognize and respond to any changes in an individual’s physical, social, emotional, or behavioral needs, ensuring proper reporting and follow-up.
+ Ensure compliance with all DBHDS regulations, SJCS policies, and safety protocols, including timely medication administration (if applicable).
+ Participate in ongoing staff training, team meetings, and professional development to enhance service quality.
+ Advocate for the individual’s rights and inclusion within the community, fostering positive relationships with local organizations and businesses.

+ Understanding of Virginia DBHDS Community Coaching guidelines and person-centered service delivery.
+ Ability to work independently and adapt to flexible scheduling based on individual needs and approved service hours.
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively support individuals and collaborate with families, caregivers, and community partners.
+ Ability to model and teach appropriate social, behavioral, and daily living skills.
+ Proficiency in documenting service delivery and completing required reports in compliance with regulatory standards.
+ Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and navigate community settings.
Physical Demands:
+ Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds for assisting individuals or transporting equipment.
+ Capacity to work in various settings, including medical offices, clinics, and individual homes.
Work Environment:
+ Regular travel to medical appointments and healthcare facilities.
+ Collaborative, team-oriented environment with occasional evening or weekend appointments.
+ Full-time, 40 hours a week with a flexible schedule based on appointment times and location is required.
The hiring range for this position ranges from $17.50-$19.00, depending on experience.

Qualifications
Extra credit will be given if you have the following experience, education, and requirements:
+ High school diploma or GED preferred.
+ At least one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities in community-based programs preferred.
+ Must meet SJCS and DBHDS requirements for background checks and drug screenings.
+ Valid Virginia driver’s license with a driving record in good standing.
+ CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
+ Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and demonstrate excellent organizational skills.
+ Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
All SJCS employees must:
+ Obtain a valid health certificate to meet SJCS or current funding authority requirements as required.
+ Meet SJCS and the funding authority requirement of criminal background and record checks.
