Overview
University of Utah Health is seeking a new Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) for Ambulatory Services. Our ACNO of Ambulatory services will support the Chief Nursing Officer in overseeing clinical operations, strategic planning, and quality improvement for ambulatory clinics, ensuring exceptional patient and clinical team experiences.
The Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO), Ambulatory Services functions under the direction and in support of the Chief Nursing Officer and oversees all matters affecting nursing clinical operations of ambulatory clinics and programs. ACNO will assist the CNO in executive level management of resources, strategic planning and will facilitate meaningful clinical engagement to achieve high quality outcomes, an outstanding experience for the patients and clinical teams.
The ACNO works in partnership with the ambulatory executive director(s) and providers to effectively and efficiently direct the operations of ambulatory services across the health system. Develops and implements the organization’s plan for providing nursing and other clinical care to patients for all ambulatory based programs. Participates with ambulatory leadership and clinical teams in planning, promoting and conducting ambulatory quality assessment and performance improvement activities.
Qualified candidates must have completed:
+ **Master’s of Nursing or Master’s in Nursing Administration, Health Care Administration, Business Administration with a BSN.**
+ **Seven years of progressive leadership experience in nursing services; experience in ambulatory care or a complex academic health system preferred.**
OR
+ **Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and eleven years of progressive management experience and accepted or enrolled in master’s program.**
License Required:
+ **Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.**

Responsibilities
Job Specific Responsibilities and Accountabilities
+ Oversees day to day clinical operations and clinical outcomes for Specialty and Ambulatory Clinics, Care Coordination and related areas.
+ Ensures clinical objectives are met and the competency of skills for nursing and non-provider clinical roles are maintained to safely deliver quality care to our patients and communities.
+ Oversee the development and ongoing performance measurement, assessment, and improvement of Ambulatory clinical care by identifying process and outcome indicators that effectively measure the quality of patient care and advance organizational performance.
+ Ensures operational excellence and delivery of quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards.
+ Promote the principles of high reliability to enable and sustain a culture of safety, organizational learning, and performance improvement.
+ Collaborates with the nursing leadership team to develop a vision for operations and to ensure alignment with organizational and department of nursing vision and strategy.
+ Participates in leadership activities for the organization, contributing to the achievement of goals and objectives; evaluates operational performance.
+ Maintains operational compliance with legal, regulatory and recommended standards of governing bodies.
+ Assigns and reviews annual goals and strategic goals; provides work instruction (on the job or formal training), coaching, mentoring and development to leaders. Evaluates performance of leaders, providing continuous feedback and maintaining succession plans. Manage discipline and performance issues; including hiring and firing. Reviews and approves resource plans for areas of responsibility within operation.
+ Serves as a highly visible leader and role model in fostering and advancing the health system and the Department of Nursing’s culture, mission and goals.
+ Develops and promotes effective working relations and works effectively with other departments to facilitate achievement of goals and objectives.
+ Establishes and maintains effective communications and collaboration with administrators, Medical Directors and physicians, staff and other hospital personnel.

+ Responsible for developing, monitoring and achieving budget goals.
+ Manages labor and non-labor expenses to budget or flex budget.
+ Manages revenue to budget to maximize potential revenue.

+ Responsible for providing staff feedback on performance, including on-time appraisals and coaching.
+ Responsible to deal with conflicts in a proactive manner and to reach resolution in a timely manner.
