Work will include building enclosure design consulting, building enclosure commissioning, new building, restoration, and repair design of roofing and vertical building enclosures, including design detailing and specification review and construction phase consulting services, forensic investigation, condition assessment, and building science analysis. Candidate will be expected to work on teams of multiple staff on multiple projects at the same time, offer technical guidance to others, coordinate with the appropriate technical leads for relevant enclosure systems on the project, and may be asked to support project management duties and/or be the primary point of contact for the client.
Your Impact
+ With minimal supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, flow diagrams, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
+ Perform basic professional building enclosure work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, layout, usage, and systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and construction or operating permits.
+ Assist with the development of technology, monitoring devices, modeling techniques, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper construction and functioning of building enclosures, equipment and systems according to specifications; implementing future-ready solutions with LEED-certified and sustainable building design standards.
+ Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site and providing technical assistance on various design, construction, and integration issues relating to high-performance design, functional field testing, construction mock-up and design, laboratory testing and processes, future maintenance/repair/renewal, healthy building support, and strategies for zero carbon, portfolio sustainability, and green building certification.
+ Assist with assigned building asset evaluation, including property condition assessment, reserve studies, pre-purchase, surveys and asset management for Building Enclosures.
+ Assist with assigned forensic investigations and field reviews to determine design and repair options, building investigation reports and other construction documents related to building investigations.
+ Write technical reports summarizing research and specifications with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using sketches, calculations, software, spreadsheets, technical drawings, flow diagrams, 2D/3D illustrations, and reports.
+ Assist technical staff and project managers with risk identification and assessment, offering input and analysis with design concepts, construction, mitigation, improvement activities, and renovation projects.
+ Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
+ Assist with work plan preparation and coordination of any field/site work.
+ Complete training on assigned tasks.
+ Work collaboratively with other professionals, architects, scientists, engineers, inspectors, product manufacturers, and technicians on building, façade, and appearance improvement and development projects.
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
+ Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
+ Provide building enclosure consulting and commissioning services.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Building Science, Construction Management, or closely related discipline.
+ 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior enclosures, façade design, and sustainability experience.
+ Highly familiar with building materials and construction processes for design, construction, and/or repair of building enclosures, façades, waterproofing, cladding systems, roofs, parking structure, noise abatement, and the application to project work-related issues.
+ Knowledge of third-party green building rating systems (LEED, Passive House, LBC, WELL, or related).
+ Highly familiar with building planning, design, façade, and construction management involving commercial and residential buildings; including renovation and new design projects.
+ Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
+ Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
+ Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
+ Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Revit, WUFI, THERM, energy modeling).
+ Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
+ Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
+ Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
