The Director of Business Affairs/Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the college, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements, and maintaining the integrity of financial records. This role provides strategic financial guidance, manages accounting and budgeting functions, and ensures the efficient administration of financial policies and procedures to support the institution's mission.
Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting:
+ Oversee the college's accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
+ Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and forecasts for senior leadership, and external stakeholders.
+ Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory standards.
+ Manage the preparations of annual reports and coordinate audits.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
+ Develop and oversee the annual budget process, working closely with unit managers and other campus leaders to ensure financial alignment with institutional priorities.
+ Monitor financial performance, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
+ Provide multi-year financial projections and analyses to support long-term strategic planning.
+ Manage cash flow and liquidity to meet the operational needs of the college.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
+ Establish and maintain financial policies and internal control procedures to safeguard college assets.
+ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax reporting obligations.
+ Serve as the primary contact for financial audits and reviews, working to address any findings or recommendations.
+ Serve as the Campus Security Administrator ensuring compliant access to campus and other systems.
Leadership & Collaboration:
+ Supervise business office staff, including accounts payable, purchasing, travel, contracts, and accounting.
+ Provide training and guidance to staff and faculty on financial policies and procedures.
+ Collaborate with senior leadership to support financial decision-making and institutional initiatives.
Job Requirements:
+ Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
+ Minimum of 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, accounting, or business affairs.
+ Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and budgeting principles.
+ Experiences with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and financial management software.
+ Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
+ Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across departments.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master's degree or CPA preferred.
+ Experience with nonprofit or higher education (SUNY) financial management.
+ Familiarity with grant and fund accounting principles.
+ Proficient user of Banner/Argos
