    Job Summary:

    The Vice President, Medical Affairs (VPMA) provides administrative leadership to the medical staff at the hospital and the medical group practices and acts as liaison to hospital and Covenant administration. Participates in strategic planning at all levels of the hospital and practices. In partnership with the hospital President and Vice President, Patient Care Services, oversees clinical quality and operations of the hospital. In partnership with the Vice President of IMG Operations, oversees the clinical quality and operations of the employed medical group practices via supervision of Medica Directors. Under the overall direction of the Covenant SVP, CMO and with adherence to local and system policies and procedures, the VPMA provides leadership and direction regarding new initiatives to transform the delivery of care towards a more integrated healthcare system resulting in enhanced quality and lower cost. In collaboration with hospital, ambulatory and system leaders, responsible for strategic planning and development of clinical programs and services.

    Job Responsibilities:

    + Works closely with members of management and clinical staff to help resolve any acute and ambulatory operational problems.

    + With the Medical Staff Leadership, oversees the updating, amending, application, and enforcement of the hospital's Medical Staff bylaws, including but not limited to:

    + Issues with impaired physicians.

    + Provider disciplinary actions.

    + Departmental and interdepartmental professional disputes.

    + Physicians' performance evaluations, including OPPE and FPPE measures and reports

    + Peer Review Program

    + Participates in, and provides support for, Credentials, Medical Executive, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, and other Committees.

    + Identifies needs and participates in physician recruitment efforts.

    + Participates in the management of the medical staff elements of DNV, CMS, DHHS, and other accreditation and regulatory organizations.

    + Oversees the office of Medical Staff Services, and its credentialing activities.

    + Develops and maintains a competent medical leadership structure for the hospital and the Medical Group.

    + Works closely with Hospital and System Quality and Risk Management staff to continually improve the delivery of safe, high quality, and efficient patient care, and to analyze and improve patient satisfaction scores. Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

    + Participates in the investigation of and response to patient complaints regarding clinical care and providers.

    + Works closely with staff whose responsibilities include the disciplines of case management, care coordination, transitions in care, population health, utilization review, denial management, risk/capitated arrangements, and commercial payers' pay-for-performance programs (including ACO arrangements) to continually improve the delivery of coordinated, efficient, safe, and high-quality patient care.

    + Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.

    + Serves as an active participant in pertinent Covenant Health System committees.

    + Serves as an advocate and spokesperson for the Hospital and Covenant Health; actively engaged in the local community and serves on at least one community Board.

    + Serves as a medical content resource for the Hospital's president, local leadership team, and Board of Directors.

    + Continued participation part-time (less than 50%) in clinical practice in any specialty is required. Accordingly, keeping up to date on the science and practice of the specialty, as well as maintaining medical licensure and board-certifications are required.

    + Provides administrative oversight for providers employed and non-employed

    + Partners with Quality, Medical staff president for peer review and quality goals

    + Partners with VP of Patient Care Services/ CNO and VPs of Operations/ Strategy to achieve quality, operational and strategic goals

    + Partners with Corporate leadership to set goals and targets for medical care and operational goals

    + Communicate with Board of Directors and Corporate leadership team regarding medical issues and provider issues

    + Serves as the administrative leader for the GME Program

    + Other duties as consistent with this role or as required

    Job Requirements:

    + Licensed as a physician in good standing in the state of New Hampshire required

    + Medical doctorate and ABMS Board Certification required.

    + Additional Medical Management training, or working towards an appropriate degree, preferred

    + 10 years’ experience as practicing physician strongly preferred

    + 5 years of progressive and diverse leadership roles and responsibilities in healthcare institutions; a mix of acute and ambulatory roles preferred

     

    An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
