Summary:
Skidmore College invites applications for a full-time, 12-month position as the Assistant Stable Manager for an exceptional Hunter Seat riding program. Housing 60 horses and teaching upwards of 80 students each semester, the Skidmore barn is a consistently busy place and strives to maintain a safe, enjoyable environment where students, both Skidmore and community, come to enhance their learning and better their riding skills.
Anticipated start date is July 1, 2025.
Key responsibilities:
During the day (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM), the Assistant Barn Manager will assist the Barn Manager and staff in all aspects of horse care and maintenance including but not limited to:
+ turn outs,
+ grooming,
+ administering medications,
+ consulting with vets,
+ recognizing signs of illness and injury,
+ treating illness and injury,
+ driving students to/from barn, etc.
During the night and on weekends, the Assistant Barn Manager has "on-call" duties including but not limited to night checks, security, overnight emergency care (when necessary), after hours horse arrivals, etc.
The Assistant Barn Manager will live on the premises (housing provided within feet of the barn).
Minimum Qualifications:
+ College degree is preferred.
+ Applicant must be highly motivated and engaged.
+ Applicant must have a strong fundamental knowledge of horses and their care requirements, a willingness to take directions from the Barn Manager and staff, and to follow veterinary orders precisely.
+ Ability to drive a 6 horse goose-neck trailer and/or tractors is beneficial.
+ The ability to interact comfortably with individuals and constituency groups (student-athletes, alumni, coaches, parents, etc.) is crucial.
+ Exceptional organizational and people skills are essential for this position.
Pay range: $24-27 per hour
