    Job Description

    **Position Overview:** We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced **Senior Bridge Engineer** to join our team. The successful candidate will perform NBIS Bridge Inspections as a FHWA/NHI-certified team leader and plan and develop bridge designs for NCDOT and regional clients, serving as Engineer of Record. This role includes the design of superstructure and substructure elements using specialized design tools and commercial software packages (e.g., LEAP Bridge Concrete, MDX, PGSuper, CSIBridge). Additional responsibilities include performing load ratings of existing bridges, planning and developing bridge hydraulic designs and associated drainage elements, and ensuring quality control of deliverables for bridge structural design. The Senior Bridge Engineer will also mentor entry-level bridge engineering staff.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Perform NBIS Bridge Inspections as a FHWA/NHI-certified team leader.

    + Plan and develop bridge structural and hydraulic designs for NCDOT and regional clients, serving as Engineer of Record.

    + Design superstructure and substructure elements using specialized design tools and commercial software packages (e.g., LEAP Bridge Concrete, MDX, PGSuper, CSIBridge).

    + Perform load ratings of existing bridges.

    + Plan and develop bridge hydraulic designs and associated drainage elements.

    + Perform quality control of deliverables for bridge structural design.

    + Mentor entry-level bridge engineering staff.

    + Serve as a senior technical resource and technical advisor for the team.

    + Provide specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.

    + Develop study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality, cost-effective work by others.

    + Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.

    + Develop construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects.

    + Use expertise in all steps of completing a discipline component of PS&E package.

    + Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings.

    + Prepare technical specification sections.

    + Provide input to the development of an engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.

    Qualifications

    Minimum:

    + BA/BS plus 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

    Preferred:

    Progressive experience in bridge design and inspection, including:

    + NBIS Bridge Inspections (4 years as a Team Leader)

    + Design of bridges using AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and AASHTO Standard Specification for Highway Bridges

    + CADD (Microstation/OpenBridge preferred but not mandatory)

    + HEC-RAS for bridge or culvert hydraulic design

    + Experience and knowledge of transportation/roadway geometrics

    + Licensed Professional Engineer with the ability to obtain licensure in North Carolina within 6 months of hire.]

    + Current FHWA/ NHI Certified NBIS Inspection Team Leader (completed initial or refresher course within past 60 months). Fracture-critical inspection certification is preferred but not required.

    Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $120,000.00 - $150,000.00.
