    Description

    The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences (VLCS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) at Texas A&M University (TAMU) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Food Animal Veterinarian to join our dynamic and impactful team of faculty members for a full-time, 11-month/year, non-tenure track faculty position in Food Animal Field Services at the rank of clinical assistant, clinical associate, or clinical professor.

     

    The position is designed for an individual eager to contribute to the veterinary profession through clinical service and teaching in both the clinical and pre-clinical curriculums. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in both clinical practice and education while working with faculty, students, and local agricultural communities to promote the health and welfare of food and fiber animals.

     

    The primary responsibilities of the position focus on clinical practice and teaching with a minimal emphasis on research. The successful candidate will spend approximately 60% of their effort providing high-quality, on farm, routine and emergency medical and surgical care for food and fiber animals, including cattle, sheep, goats, New and Old World camelids, swine, potbelly pigs, and exotic hoofstock. To support this endeavor, the ambulatory service has two trucks and veterinary boxes fully equipped with refrigerators, inverters, biosecurity kits and all other equipment necessary to practice state-of-the-art ambulatory food animal medicine and surgery including portable chutes and on farm diagnostics (iStat, radiography, and ultrasound) and opportunities for other investments as needed. Clinical assignments including after-hours emergency duty will be based on clinical needs and are shared by the faculty team. The remainder of the effort is distributed based on applicant’s interest and department needs through teaching in the veterinary curriculum by instructing veterinary students, interns, and residents in food animal medicine, surgery, and production management through lectures, hands-on laboratories, and clinical rotations. Research collaboration within the department and across the TAMU System are encouraged.

     

    This position contributes to a team of boarded internal medicine, surgery, beef cattle practice (ABVP) and theriogenology faculty serving the clinical, teaching, and research missions of the department on the Food Animal Medicine and Surgery Service within the Texas A&M University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences includes nearly 50 faculty members with diverse backgrounds and scholarly interests.     Faculty members are expected to develop and deliver well-organized, creative lectures and laboratory materials in the professional curriculum, be effective and innovative in his/her approach to teaching, and to supervise and mentor fourth year students, interns, and residents in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.     Qualifications

    Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree, be able to hold a Texas state veterinary license, USDA Category II certification, and a DEA certificate. Board certification or eligibility for specialty boards, including American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, is desired. Applicants must be committed to a team-centered atmosphere and possess excellent communication skills with faculty colleagues, veterinary students, house officers, technicians, and hospital staff.
