Job Summary
The Echocardiography Technician (Echo Tech) performs diagnostic procedures using high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) and other non-invasive echocardiography equipment to produce images of the heart. This role requires specialized knowledge and skills in support of diagnostic and therapeutic services for a specified patient population. Echo Techs may specialize in Adult, Pediatric, or Fetal Echocardiography.
Qualifications
+ Graduate of an accredited school of cardiac ultrasound or nationally credentialed in ultrasound, or OJT with two years of proven experience in cardiac ultrasound.
+ Licensed as a Cardiovascular Technologist or Technician.
+ BLS Certification preferred.

Essential Functions / Assigned Tasks
+ Explain procedures and treatments clearly to patients.
+ Ensure patient comfort and safety during diagnostic procedures.
+ Obtain oral history and perform correct patient identification.
+ Perform echocardiography procedures per established protocols.
+ Identify and adjust for normal/abnormal heart function.
+ Operate, verify, and maintain diagnostic equipment.
+ Document and archive diagnostic procedures accurately in the hospital system.
+ Clean and disinfect equipment according to Infection Control standards.
+ Communicate effectively with physicians and staff.
+ Participate in on-call consultation and emergency procedures.
+ Assist in orientation and education of new and existing staff.
+ Maintain ongoing education and registration through classes, conferences, and technical meetings.
+ Respond appropriately during emergencies.

Physical Requirements
+ Frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
+ Frequent use of hands, handling equipment, and pushing/pulling.

+ Frequent visual and auditory attention for alarms, monitors, and communication.
+ Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, radiation, electrical shock, and moderate noise levels.
