    Bard College seeks a Director of Human Resources to drive strategicHuman Resources (https://www.bard.edu/departments/humanresources/) initiatives across the College, overseeing a high-performing team while fostering continuous growth and development within the HR function. A key partner to leadership across the College, the Director of Human Resources will address employee relations, promote a positive work environment, and ensure compliance with employment laws, union contracts, and College policies. The Director of Human Resources will oversee compensation and benefits administration, ensuring that the College’s offerings remain competitive and compliant, while fostering a fair and supportive workplace for all employees.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Strategic Human Resources Leadership

    The Director of Human Resources will

    + supervise and lead the Annandale based Human Resources team to achieve high performance and continuous growth and development;

    + analyze HR metrics and trends to identify areas for improvement;

    + partner with leadership to develop and implement HR plans that support business growth, retention, and employee satisfaction; and

    + act as a liaison and point of contact with satellite HR offices located both nationally and internationally.

     

    Talent Acquisition and Management

    The Director of Human Resources will

    + oversee employee engagement initiatives that enhance retention and productivity;

    + oversee the recruitment and hiring processes;

    + develop new employee onboarding, orientation, and career development programs;

    + develop and implement talent management strategies that retain high-performing employees; and

    + formulate training programs and professional development offerings for staff.

     

    Employee and Labor Relations

    The Director of Human Resources will

    + foster a positive work environment by addressing employee concerns and promoting open communication;

    + investigate and resolve employee relations issues, ensuring fair and consistent treatment;

    + act as a trusted advisor to managers and employees on all HR matters, including resolving conflicts and improving workplace culture; and

    + work with Union management to interpret contract language and resolve grievance issues and participate in collective bargaining sessions.

     

    Compliance and Legal Requirements

    The Director of Human Resources will

    + ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations, including federal, state, and local requirements;

    + stay abreast of changing employment laws and advise leadership on potential risks; and

    + work closely with the Office of Title IX and Non-Discrimination and outside counsel, as needed, to resolve personnel and legal issues.

     

    Compensation and Benefits

    The Director of Human Resources will

    + oversee the administration of College sponsored group benefits in conjunction with the College’s benefits broker and the benefits manager to ensure a timely response to employee benefit questions and concerns;

    + manage annual insurance renewal and requests for proposal (RFP), as needed, and participate in vendor evaluation, negotiations, and implementation activities;

    + manage the 403(b)-retirement program, keeping up to date with regulatory requirements and monitoring the plan for compliance, including managing the annual audit; and

    + prepare reports and conduct analysis.

    PREFERRED COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

    Bard College seeks a Director of Human Resources with sound judgment and an ability to manage multiple personnel, organizational, and regulatory complexities, including leading the human resources staff while developing campus-wide systems and processes that benefit all employees at the College. Human Resources at Bard is a place of listening, service, and support that works to empower supervisors to manage and lead their staff members successfully and the Director of Human Resources should be an experienced leader who understands the need for effective change management and possesses a high degree of emotional intelligence and an awareness of the importance of organizational culture.

    Furthermore, Bard College seeks a Director of Human Resources with

    + a commitment to the mission of Bard College — to inspire curiosity, a love of learning, idealism, and a commitment to the link between higher education and civic participation;

    + expertise in employment law, compliance, and HR best practices;

    + excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills;

    + an ability to set short- and long-range goals with action steps for accomplishing results;

    + depth of knowledge of laws and best practices related to benefit plan administration;

    + knowledge of compliance requirements, federal, and state regulations, and filing and compliance requirements, including but not limited to ACA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, PFL, OSHA, Medicare, Social Security, workers compensation, and DOL requirements;

    + strong project management skills and an ability to delegate tasks as necessary to focus on higher-priority or longer-range projects;

    + natural ease working with and relating to employee needs in a fast-paced environment;

    + strong critical thinking, creative problem solving, and decision-making skills;

    + proficiency in data analysis and budget management;

    + comfort with ambiguity and an ability to provide guidance and make decisions in new or changing contexts in a way that is responsive to institutional priorities and values;

    + experience working in a unionized environment; and

    + advanced competency in Microsoft and Google Office applications, proficiency in HR technology, and familiarity with Ellucian BANNER and/or ADP Workforce Now, or similar HRIS systems.

    A bachelor’s degree and at least seven years of human resources experience in progressively challenging human resources leadership positions that include supervisory responsibilities is required for this position. Experience working in a non-profit organization, preferably within a higher educational setting, is preferred. Bard College will consider candidates with a broad range of backgrounds.     SALARY AND BENEFITS

    The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $135,000 annually.
