    GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

    Work involves responsibility for participating in the development, coordination, and supervision of a comprehensive recreation summer tennis program for children.

     

    This is a seasonal position.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Instructs children in the fundamental skills of tennis.

    + Supervises children on the tennis court.

    + Organizes and plans tennis team rosters.

    + Maintains fiscal records.

    + Officiates as required.

    + Assists with special events.

    + May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.

    ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

    + Performs related work as required.

    + Position designated as Mission Critical by Department Director.

    QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE)

    + Must be 16 years of age or older.

    + Completion of eight (8) school grades.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    + Must maintain a valid telephone number.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

    + Knowledge of rules and regulations of tennis.

    + Knowledge of first aid and CPR.

    + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the general public.

    + Strong tennis playing abilities.

    + Ability to mediate, troubleshoot, problem solve and diffuse potential difficulties.

    + Ability to maintain statistical and fiscal records and prepare reports.

    + Ability to arrange and coordinate schedules for league and tournament play.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    + Requires active work that involves walking, playing tennis or standing some of the time and exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force regularly.

    + The job risks exposure to significant environmental hazards, blood-borne pathogens, human waste, extreme outside temperatures, and bright/dim light.

    + The job requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of taste, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
