Tuberculosis Contact Investigation Epi - Maine CDC in Augusta, ME
Summary
The Tuberculosis Contact Investigation Epidemiologist is responsible for conducting public health surveillance of contacts of tuberculosis cases in collaboration with a small team, and for supporting the Tuberculosis Epidemiologist as needed to gather and analyze data and initiate public health actions to control and/or prevent the spread of tuberculosis in Maine. This position helps to develop, manage, and evaluate statewide tuberculosis surveillance systems; conduct public health interventions; participate in outbreak investigations; and provide consultation on tuberculosis to protect the health of Maine citizens and visitors.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A Master’s Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field or a Bachelor’s Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field and two (2) years professional experience in nursing, infectious disease surveillance or prevention, public health education, or similar.

+ Knowledge and experience with infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners.
+ Computer skills including Microsoft Office
+ Knowledge and experience with drafting technical disease information for providers and the public.
+ The ability to guide strategic discussions and help groups to reach decisions to further the mission of the Infectious Disease Prevention Program.
+ Experience in or working knowledge of clinical laboratory testing
+ Preferred candidates will be fluent in French, Portuguese, Lingala, Kikongo, and/or Swahili
Responsibilities Include:
Major responsibilities include but are not limited to: 1) Leading the coordination of surveillance activities, including monitoring surveillance data and publishing routine reports; 2) Working collaboratively with both internal and external partners including, but not limited to, Medical Epidemiology, Public Health Nursing, TB Consultants, and others; and 3) Participating in TB response planning and implementation.
Additional roles and responsibilities include:
1. Coordinate the collection of data related to TB cases and their contacts in the state of Maine for purposes of grant and other reporting.
2. Coordinate, enter, and report on data regarding arriving asylees and immigrants with health concerns, using the EDN system.
3. Participate in regular grant reporting using systems designated by Maine CDC and the US CDC Tuberculosis Program.
4. Provide analysis, interpretation, reporting and dissemination of surveillance data to stakeholders as needed.
5. Serve as the primary backup for the Tuberculosis Epidemiologist.
6. Participate in the investigation of tuberculosis cases and their contacts in Maine.
7. Collaborate with Public Health Nursing on contact investigations.
8. Provide professional consultations to program epidemiologists, healthcare partners, and the public.
9. Monitor national and international disease trends and emerging threats.
10. Collaborate with Infectious Disease epidemiologists to improve TB program operations.
11. Communicate epidemiological surveillance information effectively and accurately.
12. Participate in daily Infectious Disease Epidemiology morning conference call, the weekly Public Health Nursing TB call, and others as needed.
13. Participate in the state-sponsored tuberculosis workgroup.
14. Assist with writing the tuberculosis grant and completion of required reporting.
Normal working hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a one hour lunch.
This position is fully remote with the exception of occasional travel to the August office (286 Water St.) or to other locations as needed to successfully complete job duties.
These are full time 8 AM – 5 PM positions. Normal schedule is M-F, but modified schedules may be required as needed by Maine CDC. Hours worked over 45 are paid on a straight basis (hour for hour compensation) unless specifically pre-approved in writing by the Maine CDC manager.
+ Each resource must conform to the State working schedule (i.e. snow days, holidays etc.). If the State of Maine is working the contractor will be required to work. As a remote position, the contractor may be required to work when State offices are closed due to weather.
This position is not eligible for work authorization sponsorship (including H-1B sponsorship) by SSO and under the federal laws relating to the F-1 STEM EAD program, this position is not eligible to support a STEM EAD extension application.
Compensation for roles at Staffing Solutions Organization LLC (SSO) varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by applicable law, SSO provides a reasonable range of compensation for this role. In addition, SSO provides a range of benefits for this role.

Under the federal laws relating to the F-1 STEM EAD program, SSO may be able to support a STEM EAD extension application at the sole discretion of your Designated School Official. This does not guarantee that any STEM EAD extension application will be approved.
