    Montana Technological University (Montana Tech), a regionally accredited university in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, possesses an internationally esteemed reputation for excellence in higher education. Montana Tech's Safety Health and Industrial Hygiene (SHIH) Department invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level starting on August 16, 2025. The SHIH Department hosts three ANSAC/ABET-accredited programs: B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health, M.S. in Industrial Hygiene, and M.S. in Industrial Hygiene Professional Track. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to these three programs through effective course instruction, student advising, service, and research.

     

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to instructing undergraduate and graduate level classes in occupational safety & health and industrial hygiene, advising students, and conducting high-caliber external-funded research. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field at the time of hiring and effective oral and written communication skills. Professional certifications/licensure such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE), and/or Professional Engineer (PE) are desirable, along with university-level teaching experience. Individuals with solid backgrounds in research or applied occupational safety and health are encouraged to apply.     The successful candidate will instruct courses in the undergraduate Occupational Safety and Health and graduate Industrial Hygiene programs.  A portion of the graduate instruction will be delivered online.  In addition to teaching responsibilities, the successful applicant will be required to advise students and be active in research or other scholarly activities.  The applicant will also be expected to provide service to the  department, campus and the profession.

    ASSISTANT RANK REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    + requires Ph.D. in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field from an accredited university or a closely related field at the time of hiring

    + demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills in English.

    ASSOCIATE RANK REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    + requires Ph.D in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field from an accredited university or a closely related field at the time of hiring

    + demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills in English.

    + must have at least 6 years experience in teaching, research and service and evidence of advanced rank.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + One or more of the following certifications:

    + Certified Safety Professional (CSP),

    + Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH),

    + Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE), and/or Professional Engineer (PE).

    + University level teaching experience

    + Field experience as a safety and health professional;

    + Demonstrated ability for research and proposal writing;

    + Publications in occupational safety and health.
