    Job Description

    The System Offices is one of several system members within the Texas A&M University System representing one of the largest systems of higher education in the nation, with a network of 11 universities, a comprehensive health science center, eight state agencies, and the RELLIS Campus.     Salary:

    Job Description Summary:

    The Licensing Associate, under direction, manages an assigned, moderate volume portfolio of intellectual property that has been created within The Texas A&M University System (TAMUS). The position evaluates this diverse portfolio of innovations, tangible research properties, and copyrightable materials for practical applications, commercial potential, and available protection under federal and state statues. The Licensing Associate, with assistance from more senior licensing staff, proposes and implements intellectual property protection and commercialization strategies for the assigned portfolio and accomplishes the transfer of proprietary research results to commercial application through license agreements with industry partners.

    Responsibilities:

    - Assist/advise faculty and researchers in the process of technology disclosure and intellectual property matters.- Review, analyze, and evaluate new disclosures for commercial potential taking into account factors including, but not limited to practical application, stage of development, and intellectual property protection opportunities.- Recommend strategies for statutory protection and best path to market.- Conduct market research, projection, and valuation of technologies.- Prepare non-confidential summaries of technologies for use in marketing, where appropriate.- Contact potential licensees and explain possible utilities and value of new innovations to elicit their interest and feedback.- Prepare and negotiate confidentiality, material transfer, inter-institutional, and other agreements, where appropriate.- Propose and negotiate, with oversight, reasonable terms and conditions for option and/or commercial license rights to use technologies with potential licensees.- Interact with Texas A&M Innovation operations staff to ensure assigned disclosure and agreement information is accurate, and to monitor license compliance.- Interact and collaborate with New Ventures team concerning start-up companies licensing TAMUS intellectual property.- Assist in educational activities to increase the general awareness of intellectual property matters among TAMUS faculty, staff, and students.

     

    - Other duties as assigned.

     

    Education and Experience:- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, or Life Sciences, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    - Two years of related experience in technology transfer in academia or an industrial setting.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    - Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.- Strong analytical and organizational skills.

     

    - Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

     

    - Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

     

    - Ability to draft and interpret legal language in contracts and other documents.

     

    - Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
