    Job Description

    Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK), a Member of The Texas A&M University System, invites applications for a highly energetic tenure-track Assistant Professor in Beef Production Systems. This position is a nine-month Department of Animal Science and Veterinary Technology (ASVT) appointment, with 25% research and 75% teaching responsibilities (nine credit hours each spring and fall semester). The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognized, externally funded, multidisciplinary research program in beef cattle production systems. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain close-working relationships with food-animal industry stakeholders. Academically, the faculty member will mentor graduate students, teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to their area of expertise. A competitive negotiable salary and benefit package commensurate with the candidate’s level of expertise will be offered. Availability for employment by the 2025 Fall semester is expected.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Animal Science or a closely related field from an accredited university with extensive beef cattle systems production and management experience. Evidence of successful teaching and applied beef cattle research experience is preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential; candidates should have evidence of scholarly achievement in teaching and research. Other requirements include a commitment to high standards of academic professionalism and a positive attitude for teamwork.

     

    The Department

     

    The ASVT at TAMUK is an integral part of the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. In addition to awarding a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, with degree emphases in General Animal Science, Pre-Veterinary Medicine, and Animal-Wildlife Veterinary Technology, and a Master of Science degree in Animal Science, ASVT is home to the only four-year accredited Veterinary Technology program in Texas and the renowned King Ranch® Institute for Ranch Management. The Department of ASVT is the largest academic department on the picturesque campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville, with 13 faculty, 27 graduate and over 500 undergraduate students. The 650-acre Texas A&M University-Kingsville Farm houses beef cows, meat goats, and hair-sheep, and provides students with hands-on training in basic food animal production management ASVT faculty value innovative teaching, experiential learning, and encourages collaborative endeavors.
