    Agency Instructor I - Recruit Program

     

    $5,833.34/month

    Full-Time Position

    2 Positions to be Filled

     

    The Recruit Fire Instructor is responsible for providing training in various courses for the Recruit Program/Public Sector. Training may be performed online, classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and/or technical assistance. Utilizes knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and ensure overall effectiveness of the course instruction. Course material is presented using a variety of media. To meet learner needs, the instructor is responsible for modifying course curriculum when necessary. Maintains skills and a knowledge base adequate to meet current and future instructional requirements. Required to supervise and evaluate student performance as well as competently discuss procedures and techniques and regulations and apply all safety measures. This position may be eligible for 75% FTE.

     

    This position reports to the Recruit Program Training Coordinator

    Required Qualifications:

    + High School diploma or GED.

    + Four years or more years as a firefighter.

    + Four years of experience in adult education and/or training.

    Required Licenses/Certifications:

    + Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

    + Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) certified Firefighter.

    • National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1041 Instructor I or higher certified or equivalent.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Associate's or higher degree from an accredited university or college; degree in a related field.

    + Ten years of experience in training or adult education.

    + Master Firefighter with Texas Commission on Fire Protection.

    + Master Fire Instructor with Texas Commission on Fire Protection.

    + Pro-Board certified in firefighter fields.

    Physical Requirements:

    + Must be able to wear PPE and move light, moderate, and/or heavy objects/training equipment.

    + Must be able to operate in low visibility environments.

    + Must be able to physically operate independently in an IDLH environment given the appropriate protective equipment, following current standards and techniques while operating common firefighting equipment and appliances.

    + Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat.

    + Ability to move up to 50 lbs.

    + Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day.

    + Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

    + Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, and movement of training equipment.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Advanced working knowledge in a specialty area.

    + Excellent communication and presentation skills.

    + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

    + Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

    + Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs.

    + Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups

    + Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies.

    + Ability to orally comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning.

    + Ability to facilitate and adapt course and course content.

    + Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff, groups of various sizes.

    Equipment:

    + Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.

    + Fire Apparatus working knowledge.

    + Training equipment.

    + Maintenance of equipment.

    Notifications:

    + This position is security sensitive.

    + This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

    + This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.

    + All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.

    + Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines.

    + This position may require domestic and international travel.

    + This position may be eligible for 75% FTE.

    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Course Instruction - 60%

    + Arrives no less than 1 hour before the course is scheduled to begin.

    + Follows approved curriculum course outline and timelines.

    + Performs all course exercises as explained by instructor guide.

    + Uses a variety of techniques for presenting course material.

    + Develop instructional techniques to accommodate various learning styles.

    + Initiates and maintains interactive classroom discussions.

    + Provides positive reinforcement and motivational incentives.

    + Monitors learner performance.

    + Evaluates and assesses instructional effectiveness.

    Additional Support and Instruction - 20%

    + Schedules, coordinates, and conducts Recruit Program hand-off, field delivery courses, assigns area schools and other courses assigned.

    + Assists with Annual Schools and/or other special schools/activities as assigned.

    Course Development and Review - 10%

    + Modifies or develops course content to meet changing needs and objectives, including visuals and handout materials.

    + All changes will be in cooperation with the curriculum, certification, and evaluation group.

    Other Duties – 10%

    + Maintains a clean and neat appearance.

    + Submits class reports, and travel documentation.

    + Submits weekly reports and all associated documentation.

    + Attends all called meetings unless dismissed by supervisor Interacts professionally with External/Internal customers.

    + Perform other duties as assigned.
