    Position Summary:

    The Trauma PI Safety Specialist supports the Trauma Program’s Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) activities, including review of trauma care across the continuum of care, case-finding, and audit of medical records.

     

    Provides coordination and facilitation of performance improvement activities, including trending and benchmarking of data outcomes

     

    .

     

    This role also is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of Trauma Injury Prevention and community outreach programs and develops relationships with established program leaders within the community a minimum of 0.2 FTE.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    Under the general supervision of the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director, functions to include, but not limited to:

    1.

     

    Performs and / or supervises medical record audits related to various trauma Quality Improvement indicators to identify problems and / or trends in trauma care for referral to providers.

     

    2.

     

    Responsible for providing feedback to referral hospitals / physicians regarding patient outcomes.

     

    3.

     

    Regularly attends Trauma Multidisciplinary

     

    Peer Review Physician meeting

     
     

    Prepares chart reviews and summaries for Trauma Peer Review / Morbidity and Mortality Committee.

    Required:

    * Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Michigan

    * Associate’s degree in Nursing

    * 2 years clinical experience in Trauma, ER, or CCU

    * Five years of recent nursing experience in surgical care, critical care, and/or an emergency department with increasing responsibility and interest in the trauma care

    * Current ACLS certification required before start date (valid at least 60 days beyond start date)

    Preferred:

    * Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN)

    * Experience in quality improvement and patient safety

    * TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum), PALS, ENPC, ATCN, FCCS, CCRN
