    The Office of Research has an outstanding opportunity for a Compliance Analyst to join their team.** **POSITION PURPOSE

     

    University of Washington investigators perform world-class field programs in every corner of the globe, in addition to groundbreaking research activities at the Seattle campus that occasionally involve the use of technology and information relevant to national security. This position directly supports compliance with applicable federal regulations governing research security.

    POSITION COMPLEXITIES

    The Research Security Analyst must understand and support researcher and University compliance with legal and regulatory obligations related to research security as mandated by the CHIPS and Science Act, National Security Presidential Memorandum 33, the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Program, and all other applicable regulations.

    POSITION DIMENSIONS AND IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITY

It is critical that UW has strong, effective leadership in the research security domain if UW is to maintain its position as a premier research university.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    With direct supervision by the Director, Research Security Office, design, develop, implement, maintain and improve various aspects of the research security program, including but not limited to the following elements:

    Program and Project Management (50%)

    + Foreign influence assessments. Consistent with University policies and procedures, review publicly available sources and researcher disclosures to identify and develop mitigation plans for potential foreign influence in research activities.Information Management (20%)

    + Working with campus stakeholders, provide guidance to University researchers on the identification and handling of controlled unclassified information and proprietary materials or documents.Information Security (15%)

    + Serve as a liaison between the Office of Sponsored Programs, UW-IT, and research projects to ensure compliance with federal information security requirements and/or as specified in research agreements. In coordination with the Director, Office of Research Security, and the Chief Research Security Officer, recommend mitigation provisions for research security compliance concerns and issues.Research Security Education and Awareness (5%)

    + Develop content and delivery methods for research security education and awareness to the broader University community. Verify employee research security awareness and accept employee acknowledgements of research security responsibilities.Compliance (10%)

    + For the broader University, monitor compliance of University policies, standards, guidelines and procedures with Federal statutes, policy and guidance. Recommend revisions to University policies; develop and implement revisions to University standards, guidelines and procedures. Provide subject matter expertise in the area of research security. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**

    + Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Science, and/or international affairs.

    + Bachelor’s degree and four years’ experience in research security; OR equivalent combination of education and work experience. Research security experience must include experience with NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-171, NSPM-33, CMMC, and other relevant regulations. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**

    + Demonstrated ability to work independently, make critical decisions, and work effectively with all levels of UW organization and research professionals.

    + Effective written and oral communication skills.

    + Knowledge of information systems security practices.
