    Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

    $101.840 - $131.410 - $160.970

     

    The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

    What You Will Do

    The Lead Medical Radiation Physicist is a leadership position within the radiation oncology department. Under the direction of the Manager of the Radiation Oncology, this position is responsible for directing and supervising clinical medical physicists, dosimetry staff, as well as performing administrative tasks to meet the goals of quality, safety and regulatory requirements. This position may require travel to other Sharp HealthCare facilities.

    Required Qualifications

    + Master's Degree Medical Physics, Radiological Physics or a closely related field. Or

    + Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Medical Physics, Radiological Physics or a closely related field.

    + 3 Years Radiation oncology outpatient experience

    + ABR Medical Physics Certification - American Board of Radiology -REQUIRED

    Preferred Qualifications

    + 5 Years Radiation oncology outpatient experience

    + 1 Year Supervisory experience

    Essential Functions

    + Financial accountabilityCoordinates and manages acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment.Collaborates with physics staff to maintain accurate documentation of equipment calibration as required.Available to respond to equipment problems and maintenance.Coordinates with vendor any necessary equipment repairs.Advises administration on equipment replacement needs.Works with physics staff to ensure that the equipment requirements of the radiation oncology departments is maintained at the highest level and updated as required.Analyzes equipment problems with physics staff to recommend parts replacement, modification or full unit replacement, preparing extensive and highly complex detailed equipment specifications.

    + Human resources managementPromotes staff accountability and empowerment by utilizing available resources to educate and guide radiation staff.Prioritize daily divisional functions, assign tasks and oversee the functions of subordinates to ensure quality and consistent outcomes and optimal departmental performance.Hires, coaches, counsels, trains and conducts timely annual performance appraisals.Manages timecards and other operational requirements for direct reports.Provides an environment that challenges and creates opportunities for recognition of an individual's worth and ability to meet and exceed standards.Leads and/or participates on task forces to support the needs of the department.Ensure department strives toward systemization through procedure review and implementation.Exhibits team building, collaboration, and models the Sharp Mission, Values and Philosophy.Advise and participate in capital and operating budget preparationDevelopment, implementation and supervision of quality control programs in the radiation oncology department.Research and development of new devices and modalities for improved diagnostic and therapeutic uses of radiation.

    + Participates in care planningProvides important consultant function regarding patient radiation treatment planning proposing several alternates, and discusses probable procedure with physicians.Exercises primary responsibility for accurate specification of dose delivered by each of the x-ray and radioactive sources.Supervises and instructs patient treatment planning for medical dosimetrist in all types of radiation therapy modes and applications.Consults, advises, and provides direction for staff and physicians in patient dosimetry calculation, and setting up of treatment portals.Develops new procedures, plans new and innovative devices to improve patient care and treatment.Assists in preparing graphic dosimetry data for incorporation into each patient's permanent treatment record.Consults with and advises staff, medical staff and administration regarding linear accelerator, ortho voltage equipment selection, simulators, and treatment planning systems.

    + Quality and safetySupervises and collaborates with the staff to ensure continuous calibration measurements.Responsible for initial development of quality assurance program and record keeping techniques for on-going quality assurance and regulatory agency review.Responsible for inspecting and implementing all provisions and revisions of procedure relative to California Environmental Health and Safety Regulations, particularly as applied to patients as well as all professional and technical staff.Responsible for establishing, developing and monitoring procedures in place for measuring performance levels of the equipment and required to organize the physics department to meet all Joint Commission requirements.Responsible for monitoring, assuring, assessing the performance of dosimetry staff, CT therapist and radiation therapist to ensure adequate performance of their duties and review of the performance.Advises Administration and Medical Director regarding radiation protection procedure and consults frequently with staff regarding problems relative to radiation safety and protection.Membership on applicable committees, such as the Radiation Safety Committee, Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Committee, and other safety and Cancer related Committees.

    + Training and educationCapable of teaching all tasks required by the physics department to the dosimetrists and staff radiation therapists.Provide continuing education lectures to both the technology and physics staff, as well as to associated allied personnel within the cancer center.Assures that all pertinent information is provided to staff through staff meetings and other forms of formal and informal communication. Actively supports leadership decisions and is accountable for ensuring department compliance.Provides leadership and supervision of technical staff to provide for the production of high quality work.Reports problems relating to staff, morale, and work method procedures to manager.Assists manager with preparation of the budget.Supervises all treatment procedures and patient care activities of the technical staff.Assist manager with competencies and annual evaluations.
