*Position Summary*

Performs technical and clerical functions in one or more sections of the laboratory. Can perform routine duties in the Clinical laboratory under the supervision of Medical Licensed Technologist and are responsible for basic laboratory techniques and use of equipment. Duties will include processing laboratory samples and recording the findings.

*Reports to:*Director of Laboratory

*Responsibilities of the Position*

Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.

Maintains adequate stock of supplies.

Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.

Performs clerical duties including answering phones, data entry, and filing.

Communicates test results to appropriate healthcare providers.

Assists nursing with phlebotomy procedures when necessary.

Performs computer functions.

Performs under supervision, waived procedures such as hCG and Strep Screen, front end urinalysis (excluding microscopic exam), and microbiology culture initiation.

Review test results to assure accuracy prior to release.

Fax copies of outpatient reports and reference lab results to physicians.

Maintains professional records that provide evidence of competency and continuing education.

Attends 80% of unit meetings.

Achieves goals identified during performance evaluations, proactively defines goals for the coming year.

Other duties as assigned.

*Minimum Education*

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Two years of college is preferred.

*Certifications/Licenses*

Basic Life Support (BLS) is required through American Heart Association upon hire.

*Required Skills*

Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
