    Position Specific Description

     

    NextEra is seeking an experienced full-stack software development engineer to join our New Product Development team. Our SDEs work in a fast-paced environment to help NextEra build innovative solutions for emerging business lines, including NextVision (our internal drone imaging platform) and FPL EVolution (our in-house EV charging management software). Engineers contribute to all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements gathering and refinement, system design, implementation, and testing. Our engineering team is encouraged to use a technical stack that aligns best with the problems they are trying to solve. An ideal candidate will be a continuous learner who embraces change and has a desire to create the best solutions possible with a focus on business value. The candidate should possess the ability to execute with excellence while also mentoring less-experienced team members.

     

    + Works with other NextEra Energy teams and business units to develop and deliver industry-leading technology solutions to complex challenges

    + Codes in multiple languages in support and development of software products

    + Conducts system testing and creates unit tests and automations for new and existing features

    + Writes documentation for technical requirements and system architecture

    + Participates in agile ceremonies with the product team, including refining product requirements, providing estimates on work, daily standups, and post-sprint reviews and retrospectives

    + Collaborates on high level software design projects and software system architecture and creates effective component level architectures

    + Leads software module construction from architecture and design to implementation

    + Mentors junior engineers to ensure the team succeeds together

    + Performs other job-related duties as assigned

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science

    + Involvement in system design and architecture of software systems

    + Excellent communication with technical and product colleagues

    + One or more years of recent Typescript and/or React/Node experience

    + Familiarity of cloud computing, AWS, Azure, or similar

    + Exposure to CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code processes

     

    Job Overview

     

    This position writes and tests software to aid in development and support of products. Individuals in this role work with Technical Leads on software system architecture and service design and typically leads a module in the system. This position participates in required product development process ceremonies. Employees in this role are responsible for writing and refining technical requirements and technical design documentation.

    Job Duties & Responsibilities

    + Codes in multiple languages in support of software products and the development of software products

    + Conducts system testing and codes unit tests and support features

    + Documents technical requirement and other technical documentation

    + Works with product team to refine product requirements

    + Collaborates on high level software design projects and software system architecture and creates effective component level architectures

    + Leads software module construction from architecture and design to implementation and may lead a small team of engineers in building the module

    + Performs other job-related duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

    + Experience: 7+ years
