Definition
Under general supervision, is responsible for locating underground utility lines and/or inspecting traffic control devices; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)
+ Determines location of underground utility lines using various line locator equipment, maps and atlases andmarks same in the field;
+ Identifies locations of underground leaks or spills using pipeline locator equipment, maps, and atlases;
+ Identifies locations of damaged or structurally compromised lines or facilities and immediately reports same to supervisor;
+ Operates a laptop computer for reading prints, mapping, and completing work orders and other related documentation;
+ Excavates valve boxes to assist locating main utility line valves;
+ Makes drawings, sketches, and takes photographs of utility line locations;
+ Completes records on work completion;
+ Drives to general area of utility lines;
+ Lays out traffic cones and or other devices in order to divert traffic;
+ May oversee and train others in locating utility lines;
+ May inform consumers of utility line responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience locating, installing, and/or inspecting utility lines, traffic control devices, or working as a Maintenance Apprentice (Electrical).
Possession of a valid driver’s license.

COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION ANNOUNCEMENT: The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will beMERGED, according to score, with the names of applicants on the current eligible list. If you are interested in having your name included on the eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439.
The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Reading Comprehension, Problem Sensitivity, Logic and Reasoning, Information Ordering, Map Reading, Reading Tickets, Plans, and Atlases, Utility Line Location and General Work Practices, and 2016/2019 Word and Outlook.
Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
