    The Writing Colleagues Program at Hobart and William Smith Colleges is a course-embedded tutoring program that is among the oldest in the country (est. 1993). The program supports writing across the curriculum through the training and mentoring of peer tutors in first-year seminars and introductory level courses across the disciplines. The Director closely collaborates with our two Writing Colleagues Program faculty in the independent Writing and Rhetoric Department. This full-time, benefits-eligible administrative position with teaching responsibilities (2 courses per year, 1-1 teaching load). Position begins August 2025 with a course offering in the Fall 2025 semester.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    + Has primary responsibility for supporting all current Writing Colleagues, including supervising and mentoring Writing Colleagues in course placements.

    + Contributes to the professional development of Writing Colleagues, and to the faculty development for those integrating peer tutors into their courses.

    + Responsible for the assessment of instructional and program design.

    + Maintain the program budget.

    + Responsible for the promotion of the program to students, faculty, and alumni/alumnae.

    Other Information:

    This is a full-time, 10-month, benefits-eligible position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the academic year, with a possible shortened workweek during the scheduled summer hours’ time period. Salary range is $55,000 - $65,000 annually.

    Minimum Required Qualifications:

    + Master’s degree or ABD in rhetoric and composition and/or related field.

    + Experience teaching writing or experience working in writing center, course-embedded tutoring program, and/or writing program administration.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Ph.D. degree in rhetoric and composition or related field.

    + Experience as a tutor or supervising/supporting writing tutors or writing teachers .

    + Demonstrated engagement with scholarship on course-embedded tutoring, writing across the curriculum, writing in the disciplines, and/or writing program administration .
