Description

Do you want a seasonal opportunity that allows you to work outside while making a direct impact in the local community? If so, consider applying for the Public Utilities Trainee position!

The Public Utilities Trainee positions are temporary, seasonal positions (no benefits) with a preferred hiring rate of $14.78 per hour. During your application, you will be able to indicate if you wish to be considered for only one assignment or both, as listed below. Prior experience is not required as paid, on-the-job training will be provided.

+ Mowing/Grounds Assignment: A significant amount of work will include mowing, cutting brush, operating a pressure washer, and other tasks as assigned. This assignment is anticipated to begin in May 2025 and last through October 2025.

+ Meter Box Maintenance/Inspection Assignment: A significant amount of work will include assessing meter box conditions, identifying service line materials, recording data in a work order management system, and other tasks as assigned. This assignment is anticipated to begin in June 2025 and last through August 2025.

Physical Requirements: This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and wearing a respirator.

Minimum Qualifications

+ Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the 10th grade.

+ Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at hire date, approximately 3 weeks after initial application date.

+ Possession of a valid driver's license.

+ Availability to work up to 40 hours per week at least through the end of the summer season (early August 2025).

The selected candidates for these positions will be subject to the following screenings and must receive satisfactory results:

+ DMV record review;

+ Job-specific physical; and

+ Criminal background check.
