    The cardiology nurse practitioner (NP) in line with regulated procedures imposed, carries out physical examinations, and provides treatment for generally episodic and chronic patients and their families. A cardiovascular nurse practitioner focuses exclusively in offering first rate care to cardiac patients in diverse settings. The NP cares for patients of any age with cardiovascular ailments attending to patients in routine follow-up visits or as part of a preventive program. The NP is expected to take part in diagnosing of ailments and diseases as well as providing medical and dietary suggestions. The NP may perform various duties and at an advanced stage; may organize research and play a leadership role in educating patients and prevention methods; provide treatment and enlighten patients, while also keeping accounts and details of medical histories and carrying out diagnostics. They collaborate with patients and their families to educate them on managing cardiovascular disease, dietary and other means of minimizing risk of heart problems. • Examine pathophysiology for diverse cardiovascular disease operations • Establish diagnosis of cardiovascular ailments and formulate a plan of treatment, as well as assess the patient’s response to therapy • Make use of evidence-based medicine procedures by utilizing quality and cost effective care • Enlighten patients and their families with regards to the cardiovascular procedures, which include primary and secondary prevention of cardiac while being mindful of the patient’s emotional, cultural and physical requirements

     

    Generate sufficient organization skills to organize patients case load Offer the option of straightforward access to a nurse practitioner over the phone and in the center for the general practice populace Carry out independent resolutions in which NP is responsible Performs and documents in the medical records a complete history and physical examination for acute and chronically ill patients. Orders and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated. The nurse practitioner may serve as the first responder for both nursing and house staff in the event of patient status changes, orders, and in situations requiring procedural and resuscitative interventions. Assesses for risks associated with the care of the acute and complex chronically ill patient including medication side effects, immobility, impaired nutrition, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, immunocompetence, invasive interventions and diagnostic procedures. Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care team in making diagnosis of acute and complex chronic conditions. Manages diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision. Diagnoses complications and orders appropriate interventions. Identifies expected outcomes from diagnosis, and formulates and documents a plan of care to address immediate critical care needs. Utilizes evidenced based practice guidelines, protocols in an individualized, dynamic plan of care that can be applied across the continuum. Implements Plan of Care Prescribes diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical, needed to achieve expected outcomes. Manages further diagnostic tests through ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision. May perform advanced procedures consistent with privileges and competency validation, including minor suturing, complex wound management, line and tube placements and removals. Maintains ongoing communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary health care team. Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the inpatient continuum of care. Documents/dictates key components of patient’s progress via daily progress note, transfer, and discharge summary, and/or clinic note where applicable. (h&p, daily progress notes, plan of care, problem lists, procedure notes, acute event note, discharge summaries in medical record per specific patient unit of service, death summary) Documentation is timely, meets critical care compliance standards and captures patient acuity. Demonstrates Professional Practice behaviors including: preceptor/mentoring, education and instruction of students, nursing staff, nurses, graduate and novice nurse practitioners. Actively participates in unit meetings. Maintains CEUs and membership in a professional organization.

     

    Current Alabama Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license. Prefer one year experience in occupational medicine, emergency medicine, or family practice.

     

    Current, valid Alabama RN License and certificate to practice as a Nurse Practitioner as issued by the Alabama Board of Nursing. Current BLS or ACLS training provided upon hire.
