License and Certification Qualifications: Must hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Educator's Certificate in Educational Leadership and/or Support Personnel License issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Valid Georgia driver's license preferred.Education Qualifications: Master's degree in related field required.Experience Qualifications: Five years successful teaching or other related experience in education and athletics required. Leadership experience preferred.Skills Qualifications: Excellent cooperative leadership skills; demonstrated skills in oral and written communication; demonstrated skills in organization and problem solving; current knowledge of rules and regulations governing adapted sports programs as well as Georgia High School Association rules and by-laws; knowledge of special education programs; and ability to project and generate positive attitudes.Primary Responsibilities: Provide system-wide leadership for middle school sports and adapted sports programs, including overall program development and evaluation for the Athletics and Student Activities Department.1. Promote the middle school sports and adapted sports programs. Actively recruit eligible students, parents, and coaches to participate in the programs.a. Make frequent visits to schools to increase student involvement in middle school sports and adapted sports programs.b. Conduct frequent meetings with coaches, parents, and students to ensure all parties understand program policies and procedures. c. Establish and maintain community partners to provide additional resources for the program to ensure athletes receive all of the resources possible in order to be successful.2. Administer all school district interscholastic policies and procedures as well as the rules of the American Association of Adapted Sports Programs (AAASP) and the Georgia High School Association (GHSA).a. Review eligibility and medical history of each participant and develop a comprehensive registration packet for students with orthopedic impairments, other health impairments, traumatic brain injury, and visual impairments.b. Collect GHSA required physical examination forms and insurance forms to ensure knowledge of impairments are documented and available for review as necessary.3. Obtain required sport(s) specific certification in AAASP and GHSA coaches education course and attend mandatory meetings and clinics. a. Attend required workshops and successfully pass all certification requirements to meet AAASP guidelines.b. Ensure all coaches receive and maintain the required certifications necessary to coach an adapted sports team through frequent communication and dissemination of materials to ensure all coaches are certified by the AAASP and GHSA.4. Observe and evaluate coaches in order to make future recommendations in terms of job duties and job assignments.a. Conduct periodic visits to practices to ensure coaches are fulfilling duties and responsibilities.b. Attend home adapted sports athletic events and manage any disputes that may arise in accordance with AAASP policies.c. Work with the AAASP to ensure each home event has the required game officials and table officials.d. Ensure scores are reported and equipment is cared for and inventoried according to guidelines5. Provide support to all local middle school athletic programs.a. Work to help develop and promote the middle school athletic director position.b. Develop middle school schedules for all sports.b. Conduct quarterly middle school athletic director meetings.c. Support local school athletic directors with eligibility, policy/procedures, and guidance on rules for different student athletics.6. Attend the NIAAA and GADA Athletic Director Conferences for professional development and to maintain the most up to date knowledge of issues and opportunities that are likely to have significant impact on athletic programsa. Work towards NIAAA CMAA certification through professional development and presentations on athletic subjects that pertain to the local, state, and national levels of the job of athletic directors.b. Encourage professional growth of middle school athletic directors through professional development with the NIAAA and GADA7. Work with the Director of Athletics to help establish and maintain professional, productive working relationship with a variety of agencies, organizations, groups, and individuals who are key stakeholders in the district's athletic programs as well as those who impact athletics across the state including, but not limited to, the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), the Gwinnett County Board of Education, and the Georgia Department of Education.8. Provide suggested response to the Director of Athletics on questions from the GHSA regarding the position of the district and the likely impact of proposed rules on Gwinnett County Public Schools and athletics statewide.a. Research and anticipate issues and opportunities likely to be significant to the athletic programs in the district and across the state.b. Help guide the development of booster clubs in all GCPS athletic programs.9. Assist the Director of Athletics to help maintain up to date information on the district athletic website.a. Focus on promoting the growth and development of middle school athletics on the district athletic website.10. Perform other duties as assigned.
