Major/Essential Functions:
+ Works in the Department of Psychiatry Southwest Brain Bank studying the biological causes of mood disorders (major depression and bipolar disorder) primarily through the use of human postmortem tissue and clinical research
+ Develops and implements highly complex scientific studies using a variety of techniques including but not limited to: polymerase chain reaction (PCR and RT-PCR), protein measurement (ELISA, Luminex, Western, dot blotting), microscopy (light and confocal), florescence cell sorting (FACS), FAX cell sorting
+ Participates in teaching and training Psychology interns, psychology post-doctoral trainees, residents, fellows, and medical students, including the presentation of lectures
+ Engages in advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship
+ Serves the academic community through participation in institutional governance, such as committee work and other administrative duties
+ Contributes to the community through academically-related public service complementary to the institutional mission
+ Supervises the collection of brain donations, including obtaining consent from family and medical examiners offices
+ Prepares tissue for preservation, maintains the tissue, and performs neuroanatomical dissection of samples
+ Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures
+ Ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations
+ Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

Preferred Qualifications:
+ Presentation at national scientific meetings
+ Publication in the area of neuroimmunology
+ Experience in teaching neuroscience at a collegiate level or higher
+ Molecular biology experience including DNA, RNA, and protein analysis using techniques such as Western blotting and PCR.
+ Light and co-focal microscopy experience
+ Experience with conducting Luminex assays
+ Neuroanatomical training at a colligate level or higher
+ Frozen sectioning histology experience
+ Bilingual Spanish-English
+ Emerging or established regional or national reputation for the rank of Research Associate Professor or higher

Required Qualifications:
+ M.D. or Ph.D. degree in biological related field, with thesis subject related to brain biology
+ Minimum of 3 years of post-Doctoral training in a neuroscience related field
+ Human clinical trials management experience as a clinical research coordinator or an investigator studying biology and Treatment of mood disorders
+ Experience conducting postmortem research on human subjects, including both living and postmortem tissue for the to study mental illness.
+ Experience in dissecting and conducting molecular biology research using human tissue, blood, and/or CSF
+ Publication record on neuroscience related to mood disorders
+ Experience in grant writing
