Job Title: Shipping Clerk
Salary: $41,200 - $55,700
Shift: 3rd shift
Job Summary:
This role focuses on ensuring Shipping personnel operate efficiently and safely, maximizing loads while minimizing shipping costs, and coordinating with 3rd Party Logistics Companies to ensure on-time delivery of customer products and high customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Excellence
* Plan and maintain weekly shipping schedule to ensure on-time pick and delivery of customer products
* Maintain record of counts, quantities and descriptions of inventory being shipped and received
* Reconcile all load reports with Kiwi ESP to ensure accuracy of inventory being loaded and shipped
* Identify opportunities to maximize manufactured square footage (MSF) per trailer to increase utilization of assets and increase cost savings
* Review prior day shipping report to confirm shipment with dedicated carriers, customer pick-ups, and breakdown of MSF to identify opportunities to increase efficiency
* Coordinate material staging, shipments, pick and pack order fulfillment, expired inventory destruction, and raw and customer owned inventory
* Maintain working knowledge of Department of Transportation regulations and general routes to create time efficient shipping schedules
* Review customer specifications to determine the most efficient unitizing and palletization
* Utilize Kiwi application to track and confirm inbound and outbound loads to account for inventory
* Oversee the loading and unloading shipments by forklift operators, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
* Inspect loaded shipments for accuracy and compliance with shipping requirements (e.g., correct quantities and destinations).
* Reconcile inventory discrepancies or shortages.
* Prepare and verify Shipping Documents (e.g., bills of lading, invoices).
* Maintain records of shift activities, including shipment logs, operator productivity, and 3PL interactions.
* Prepare end-of-shift reports for the Shipping Manager, noting performance, 3PL coordination issues, or delays.
People and Culture
* Oversee and direct a team of unionized forklift operators, assigning tasks .
* Ensure Forklift Operators safely operate material handling equipment (e.g. forklift) and properly adhere to all safety procedures
* Provide guidance, coaching and training to ensure safe and efficient operation of forklifts and material handling equipment.
* Enforce company policies and union contract terms,
* Liaise with a third-party logistics (3PL) company to schedule pickups, confirm shipment details, and ensure seamless handoff of goods during overnight hours.
* Work collaboratively with Production, Planning and Customer Service to assess, manage, and prioritize customer requests to ensure load planning accuracy, mitigate delays, and enable high customer satisfaction
* Communicate production updates and delivery statuses with Customer Service and Planning to enable a positive customer experience

Problem Solving: Resolve operational delays, equipment malfunctions, staffing issues, or 3PL-related problems during the shift, escalating complex issues to the Shipping Manager.
Equipment Oversight: Ensure forklift operators maintain equipment in good working condition; report maintenance needs to the Shipping Manager.
Technical Skills:
\u2022 Microsoft Office - Excel, Outlook
Work Environment:
Work in an office within the plant environment; noisy work environment; moderately climate-controlled environment; exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures; exposure to machinery conditions of over 100\u2070F; maintain strict adherence to safety procedures. Involves supervising forklift operations and coordinating with a 3PL provider in a fast-paced environment.
Experience:
* 2-4 years of experience in shipping, warehousing, or material handling, with at least 1 year in a leadership role; experience with 3PL coordination and managing union employees preferred.
* Knowledge of inventory management best practices
Education:
* Required: High School diploma or G.E.D.
* Preferred: 2- year technical degree or certificate program in a Logistics or related field
