    Job Description

    The Department of Psychology at Old Dominion University ( ODU ) invites applicants for a Lecturer of Psychology to begin in Fall 2025. This is a 10-month, annual, non-tenure-track appointment. This Lecturer will be responsible for the following:

     

    + Teaching four undergraduate courses per semester (Fall and Spring) on the main ODU campus (Norfolk), including Introduction to Psychology.

    + Contributing to undergraduate student advising.

    + Fulfilling departmental service responsibilities.

     

    There are no research requirements for this position, though there may be opportunities for research collaboration within the department.

    Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications

     

    Master’s degree in psychology.

     

    Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities

     

    Candidates must have the communication, organization, and mentoring skills needed to be a successful instructor, mentor, and advisor.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preference will be given to candidates who have prior teaching, advising, and mentoring experience at the undergraduate level. Preference will be given to candidates who hold a doctoral degree.

    About the Department

    The Department of Psychology is in the College of Sciences and includes 30 full-time faculty members, approximately 1,200 undergraduate majors, and 60 students in our graduate programs. The department offers a terminal M.S. and Ph.D. concentrations in Health Psychology, Human Factors, and Industrial/Organizational Psychology. The department also participates in the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology, an APA approved program. Faculty research is currently funded by NIH , NSF , SAMHSA , NASA , and other entities. Areas of research collaboration among faculty in the Psychology Department include health, diversity, and technology.
