Definition
Under general supervision, is responsible for performing fully skilled plumbing work, such as alterations, maintenance, and repairs of plumbing and related systems; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)
+ Performs work on all parts of a plumbing system;
+ Replaces, installs, and maintains gas, water, steam, waste, and sewer pipes;
+ Installs, replaces, maintains and repairs chemical feed and supply lines and distribution equipment;
+ Sets fixtures; installs pumps, valves, controls, and miscellaneous fittings;
+ Performs preventative maintenance and/or testing on plumbing and related systems;
+ Does acetylene welding as required;
+ Performs or assists on other related building trades work;
+ Maintains and repairs plumbing equipment and tools;
+ Estimates time, costs, and materials required; maintains records of work performed;
+ Performs the installation and maintenance of kitchen equipment, such as garbage disposals and dishwashers;
+ Winterizes and de-winterizes plumbing systems;
+ May drive light truck to and from work site;
+ May supervise a helper.
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of plumbing experience which included the maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures and fittings. Substitution(s): Possession of a Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship in plumbing issued by the U.S. Department of Labor or the Ohio State Apprenticeship Council may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Some positions may require a valid State of Ohio Backflow Certification.

COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION ANNOUNCEMENT: The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will beMERGED, according to score, with the names of applicants on the current eligible list. If you are interested in having your name included on the eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439.
The examination process will consist of a multiple-choice exam weighted 100% covering oral comprehension, plumbing, tools, safety, problem sensitivity, and information ordering.
The exam is expected to be administered in late April-May. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
