    6 South is a 50-bed Mother/Baby care unit. Care is provided to post-partum mothers and their newborn infants. They also provide education to new families to facilitate their transition to a family unit.

    Scope of work

     

    The Lactation Consultant functions as a member of the health care team by providing patient and family education, acting as a consultant and resource for the medical and nursing staff, and by serving as a community resource for breast feeding related care throughout the organization, not just in Maternal Child Health. The Lactation Consultant uses specific age and culture-related physical, intellectual, psychosocial, and developmental attributes in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for breast feeding patients.

    Qualifications

    + Required Associate's Degree in nursing

    + Preferred Bachelor of Science in Nursing

    + 2 years of relevant experience. 2 years of recent maternal child experience required

    + Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Michigan required

    + CLC required at time of hire. CRT-Board Cert Lactation Consultant (BC-IBCLC) - IBCLCE International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners required within 2 years

    + This position Prefers IBCLC upon hire with previous Lactation Consultant experience

    + AHA, ARC, or Canadian Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire
