ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE
John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. Led by President Karol V. POSITION OVERVIEW
+ Provide in-person and virtual individual and group career advising through appointments, classroom visits, workshops and other group presentations.
+ Educate and help students at all stages and in all functions of the career advancement process, including career exploration, assessment, experience acquisition, resume and application material development, industry, and employer research, interviewing, networking, and job/internship/volunteer/experience search strategies.
+ Design, develop, market, and present creative career development programming to students in group settings and generally support the office’s programming efforts including career fairs.
+ Track career and professional development data including appointments, programs, and employer contacts.
+ Infuse diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into all aspects of work.
+ Work with faculty, staff, and employers to collect, market, and deliver industry specific information and programing connecting students and alumni with careers across industries including Consulting, Finance, Healthcare, Media and Tech.
+ Partner with employers and alumni regarding industry related information and current economic and workforce development and impart information to students and alumni.
+ Develop, create and maintain tips sheets, industry-based resources, and integrated career and academic maps by major, minor, career field and/or degree.
+ Subject matter expert in one or more industry areas including Consulting, Finance, Healthcare, Media and Tech.
+ Seek new ways to reach employers, faculty, and students to encourage participation at events (workshops, panels, etc.).
+ Working knowledge of career tools and platforms including Focus 2, Handshake, VMock and EAB Navigate.
+ Work occasional evening and/or weekend hours for appointments and programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years related experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Master’s degree
+ Minimum of two years of career advising and/or career coaching experience.
+ Minimum of two years of industry based recruiting experience in Consulting, Finance, Healthcare, Media and/or Tech.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of career development principles.
+ Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain employer and community relationships.
+ Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
+ Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
+ Demonstrated computer and web-based platform skills (including career database and/or online teaching platforms, video communication and social media platforms, website editing and maintenance).
+ Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies.
+ Demonstrated ability to create creative, engaging programming or workshops for students and alumni.
+ Demonstrated experience and dedication to integrating issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice into work.
+ Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Administers career development programs and services in a College or Unit.
- Assists in developing and implementing career planning programs and services.
- Takes a lead role in a portfolio of ongoing programs, such as orientation or workshop programs
- May supervise a unit or program, hiring, training, and managing staff
- Consults with faculty, staff, administrators, and employers regarding students career development needs
- Assists in collection, tabulation and analysis of outcomes data for students and other stakeholders, as well as research of employment and market trends
- Assists in policy development and strategic planning/special projects.
- Serves as a liaison to student groups, clubs, and athletic organizations.
- Represents career office on college committees, conferences, and to the College community at large
- Conducts outreach programming, orienting employers and other constituents to services
- Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$52,267 - $70,238
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
