    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    Suffolk County Community College is the largest community college in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and primarily serves an audience of more than 1.5 million residents of Suffolk County.     SUNY Suffolk is a comprehensive community college committed to open access, equity, and student success, and candidates for adjunct faculty positions should be prepared to demonstrate their commitment to these values. Adjunct Faculty are scheduled to teach based on the needs of students and their department and may have the option to teach in more than one modality.

     

    Under the general supervision and direction of the Program Director of the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology Program, the instructor is responsible for providing regular instruction, developing and updating the courses taught in a classroom/laboratory, internet, and or distance-learning environment. Teaching assignments for this position could include, but are not limited to piping practices, sheet metal fabrication, electrical principles and practices as well as HVAC/R systems.

    Responsibilities:

    + Planning and delivering high-quality student-centered instruction appropriate to an open-access community college.

    + Participating in curricular development, assessment, and revision at the course, discipline, and program levels, including assessment of student learning outcomes.

    + Engaging in assessment of college-wide learning outcomes and demonstrating the use of the results of these assessments in courses.

    + Ensuring that principles of equity and inclusion are integrated in curriculum and instructional practice.

    + Ensuring that student knowledge, skills and abilities are aligned with current academic and workforce best practices.

    + Incorporating engaging and appropriate academic technology into all modes of instructional delivery.

    + Teaching assigned courses in accordance with description published in the College catalog and the approved course outline.

    + Completing mandatory compliance training as assigned during the semester.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in HVAC/R Technology

    + Two (2) years of professional experience in the HVAC industry, including hands-on work with residential and commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.

    + Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC systems, codes, safety standards, and current industry practices.

    + Licensed Certified Subject Matter Educator

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Teaching or training experience in a classroom or vocational setting.
