    The Health Behavior & Society department is currently seeking a **_Harm Reductio_** n **_Nurse_** for a mobile harm reduction intervention (‘Check It’) as part of a large research study. Check It is an innovative, low-barrier mobile overdose- and HIV-prevention intervention that provides mobile point-of-care drug checking, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), wound care, and other harm reduction services to people who use drugs in Baltimore and neighboring counties. Check It staff must operate within the principles of harm reduction. The Harm Reduction Nurse will provide clinical expertise and oversight in protocol development, coordination, and implementation for Check It, providing services including, but not limited to, medical case management, wound care, HIV testing, and PrEP for people who use drugs. The nurse will provide care as part of an interdisciplinary team. Will interact with all members of the Check It team (e.g., drug checking technicians, nurses, physicians, peer navigators, students, JHU faculty), as well as clients, including people experiencing homelessness and people who use drugs, and leadership and staff at partnering community-based organizations. This role will require community-based work at least 80% of the time.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    + Perform on-site wound care and other services on mobile van and/or at fixed sites in partnership with local harm reduction service providers.

    + Conduct active community outreach to engage potential participants.

    + Participate in the development and implementation of study & implementation protocols, SOPs, and standing order sets.

    + Practice nursing per study protocols and within the nursing scope of practice for the state of Maryland.

    + Function independently as a nurse and provide care under supervision and standing orders of the ordering providers. Care may include, but is not limited to, wound care, phlebotomy, HIV and HCV testing, PrEP initiation and continuity care, and medical case management.

    + Collect and monitor participant data, as appropriate.

    + Develop and utilize educational materials for participants.

    + Oversee inventory monitoring and ordering for all clinical supplies.

    + Establish and maintain community relationships.

    + Assure compliance with university, local, and federal guidelines for clinical practice, CLIA waivers, and other study needs.

    + Assist with aspects of study design, such as consent process, recruitment strategies, development of referral networks, logistical arrangements with ancillary services, data collection, data analysis, writing, and discussion of next steps.

    + Oversee and monitor adverse event reporting.

    + Participate in field staff and analysis meetings.

    + Support study implementation and overall instrumentation.

    + Represent the project and actively participate in relevant external groups.

    + Provide technical assistance to community-based organizations regarding wound care and harm-reduction oriented nursing practices.

    + Attends and participates in in-service and external trainings, workshops, conferences, and other relevant programs for professional growth and development.

    + Collaborate with other members of the research team in preparing study results for presentation/publication.

    + Develop/collaborate on reports, presentations, and/or manuscripts for publication for various audiences.

    + Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant emerging best practices and ongoing research.

    + Take advantage of opportunities to make presentations in local community regarding research projects, areas of expertise, etc.

    + Engage in other harm reduction service delivery-related tasks on mobile van and/or in partnership with local harm reduction service providers, including packing and distributing supplies, including drug checking tools, safer use supplies, condoms, resource lists, hygiene items, clothes, snacks and seasonal items, conducting community outreach activities in and around Baltimore (may expand to other areas of Maryland over time), conducting overdose response trainings, HIV/STI testing, and harm reduction education. All necessary training will be provided prior to engagement in these activities.

    + Communicate regularly with faculty and senior staff to provide updates and feedback.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    + Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills.

    + Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends with prior agreement.

    + Valid driver’s license and ability to drive large vehicles.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.

    + Bachelor's Degree in nursing or related discipline.

    + Minimum of two year's experience in the specialty or a related field.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Wound care/treatment certification.

    + Prior experience working with people who use drugs and other marginalized populations.

    + Familiarity and experience with harm reduction principles.

    + Prior experience working in field or mobile care settings.

    Starting Salary Range: $57,100 - $131,700 Annually (Commensurate w/exp.)
