    Archaeological Field Technician- Temporary

     

    POWER Engineers, Member of WSP, one of the nation’s strongest energy-related engineering and environmental consultants, is seeking Archaeological Field Technicians for fieldwork on multiple archaeological field projects in Ohio, Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Virginia, and West Virginia. Cultural Resources Management offers the ability to see and experience new places and learn about a variety of cultures and time periods within the region.

     

    These are temporary-hourly positions on a project-to-project basis. Pay will be determined by education and experience. Single occupancy hotel rooms and per diem are standard. The successful candidates will have a demonstrated ability to perform Phase I archaeological survey work in the U.S. Midwest or Mid-Atlantic regions.

     

    Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities

     

    The Field Technician provides technical support, utilizing a basic understanding of anthropological and archaeological field techniques in connection with locating, testing, recording, mapping, and evaluating archaeological sites and supporting field surveys. Conducting field surveys (pedestrian and shovel test surveys) using topographic maps, aerial photographs, and ESRI ArcGIS Field Maps GPS data collection software will be a regular part of this role.

     

    Projects may involve travel and extended periods of fieldwork in remote areas working 8-to-10-hour days. Work often includes traversing rugged terrain on foot in varying weather conditions and periodically digging ~45 cm holes of varying depths and looking for evidence of previous human presence.

     

    This position requires the ability to work with groups composed of diverse personalities. A willingness to learn as well as the ability to work independently and to fully plan and execute personal assignments with minimal instruction.

    Minimum Required Education/Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Archeology, Anthropology, or a related discipline

    • Previous cultural resource management (CRM) field experience OR academic archaeological field school

    • Knowledge and understanding of equipment, technology, and paperwork used in the recording and documenting of archeological sites and artifacts

    • Ability to learn about local cultural history and material culture in project areas

    • Knowledge of health and safety standards

    • Valid driver’s license

    • Ability to work long hours in harsh environments and in varying weather conditions

    • Ability to communicate with team members effectively and respectfully

    • Ability to pass a drug test and maintain a drug-free work environment

    • Willingness to travel and work 5 to 10 days at a time

    Desired Education/Experience

    • Experience with both block excavation and linear survey

    • CPR/First Aid and OSHA-10 certifications

    Base Salary Range: $21.00 - $35.00 per hour

     

    The range for this position is being displayed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Salaries are set based on a number of factors to include an individual's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This means that no two candidates are alike.
