Summary:
The Team: The Metaverse Optical Engineering team conceives, designs and builds the optical interfaces to the Metaverse. We bring state-of-the-art optical technologies into Meta's AR/VR products. We drive technology selection, development and maturation. We design the optical components, processes and metrology, then integrate these technologies into our Metaverse products.The Position: As Optical Process Engineer you will identify, develop and qualify new processes and equipment that unlock breakthrough product features and designs. You will work with lens, display, research, systems, and architecture to prototype, qualify and ramp novel component, fabrication and assembly technologies. You will focus on technologies with a 2-5 year time to ramp.The Impact: The Optical Process Engineer role is key to enabling our next generation designs and architectures. As the Metaverse evolves there are increasing demands on ergonomics, visual quality and affordability. Meeting these demands requires new architectures, materials and components which in turn require new fabrication and assembly processes that can scale efficiently and economically. This position develops these technologies, thereby enabling vibrant, market leading product features.
Required Skills:
Optical Process Engineer Responsibilities:
1. Identify, develop and qualify new optical components, processes and equipment.
2. Build and use state-of-the-art lab infrastructure to rapidly evaluate new technologies.
3. Use empirical (designed experiments, trial builds) and theoretical (simulation, analysis, modeling) techniques to explore new designs.
4. Build, test and share technology demonstrations with peers, managers and higher level executives.
5. Engage and manage external vendors to develop materials, components, equipment and processes.
6. Willingness and capacity to travel domestically and internationally (up to 25% of time.)
Minimum Qualifications:

7. BS degree in optical engineering, physics or a related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
8. Experience in process development, trade-space analysis and designed experiments.
9. Experience developing and assessing optical components, equipment and metrology.
10. Experience with cross-functional product development for high volume manufacturing.
11. Experience structuring programs, organizing tasks and soliciting the resources needed to be successful.
12. Experience authoring comprehensive technical updates including status updates, experimental reports and product development phase-gate updates.
13. Familiarity with cross-functional programs and collaborative decision making.

14. MS degree or PhD in Optical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline or equivalent work experience.
15. Experience in technology transfer to and from external suppliers.
16. Experience with polarization optics design and metrology.
17. Experience with optical fabrication technologies including injection molding, compression molding, lamination and casting.
18. Chinese language proficiency.
Public Compensation:
$111,000/year to $164,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
