GENERAL DUTIES
Performs supervisory and/or complex technical functions in laboratories in support of coursework.
-Maintains, fabricates, modifies, and repairs equipment
-Determines equipment requirements, prepares purchase specifications and coordinates acquisitions
-Trains and supervises College Laboratory Technicians, College Assistants, and other laboratory staff
-Manages set up, maintenance, and organization of student laboratories
-Maintains safety and hygiene standards
-Documents laboratory activities
-Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Culinary Arts Program at Kingsborough Community College of the City University of New York (CUNY) seeks a Senior College Laboratory Technician to supervise the day-to-day operations of culinary labs and kitchens for instruction within the Culinary Arts Program. the Senior College Laboratory Technician will manage a staff of College Laboratory Technicians (CLTs), collaborate with faculty for lab requirements, and maintain all culinary labs and kitchens.
The Senior College Laboratory Technician will report to the Culinary Arts Program Director and have the following duties:
+ Maintain all kitchen equipment and classroom spaces
+ Coordinate and work closely with the Purveyor Manager and Culinary Arts Program Director
+ Schedule, train, and supervise College Laboratory Technicians (CLTs), College Assistants, and other kitchen laboratory staff
+ Supervise and assist with the fulfilling of kitchen laboratory requisitions
+ Responsible for the cleanliness and efficiency of kitchen laboratories
+ Manage set-up, break-down, maintenance, and organization of kitchen laboratories
+ Inspect all kitchen laboratories daily for cleanliness, organization, and inventory
+ Monitor, maintain,and coordinate the repairs of kitchen and laboratory equipment
+ Coordinate, liaise, and meet with College Buildings & Grounds, other College Departments, purveyors, and external vendors
+ Liaise with College Buildings & Grounds for equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement and other laboratory requirements
+ Regularly monitor inventory management
+ Supervise and manage safety and hygiene protocols of the NYC DOH, Building and Fire Codes
+ Document laboratory activities as required
+ Performs related duties as assigned by the Department of Tourism and Hospitality
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma with a minimum of eight years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate's degree may be substituted for two years' experience and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years' experience. This position may also require the ability to supervise others.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must be a High School graduate with: 4 years of related work experience, or have: an Associate's Degree and a minimum of 2 years related experience; or a Bachelor's Degree in a related area of an appropriate combination of at least 4 years of education and work experience in foodservice operations beyond High School and appropriate technical skills. Knowledge and experience in restaurant operations and culinary arts is strongly preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in Hotel, Restaurant or Foodservice Management and related disciplines and supervisory work experience in a professional kitchen environment are highly preferred. The selected candidate should be proficient in MS Office Suite. The ideal candidate should be adept at working in a fast-paced professional kitchen environment, have strong leadership abilities, be highly organized, and have the ability to work independently and also as part of a professional team. The ability to walk/stand for long periods of time and have the ability to bend, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds, if necessary.
COMPENSATION
$64,082 - $72,319. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will increase by approximately 9.54% with an additional increase of 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
