Paid Internship Field Work Study in the LeSueur County Area
Manpower is currently accepting applications from college students or recent graduates interested in a paid learning opportunity in the public sector to begin in Summer 2025. We invite both bachelor and master program students to apply for this opportunity.
Hours of Work
Part-time to full-time hours are available generally between 8 am and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday, and schedules are flexible within these hours around applicant availability for part-time work. Some evenings or weekends may be required.
**SALARY:** $20/hour
Internship Objective:
To introduce an intern to local family service collaborative work: engaging a large team of multi-disciplinary staff from local partners and recruiting community members, parents, and caregivers to come together to create collective impact. The purpose of the collaborative is to improve the local system of care and support for children, youth and families in our rural communities by strengthening and supporting families through integrating informal and formal supports, resources, and services. The intern will observe and assist with tasks such as conducting community needs assessments, developing strategic plans, hosting community outreach events, completing data analysis, creating marketing products, drafting policy and procedure documents, and participating in learning about the Family Resource Center concept alongside our Community Resilience Planning Team. There is potential for this role to roll over through Fall 2025 semester for the right candidate.
Interns can expect to gain experience in:
+ Understanding of the types of services available in the local system of care.
+ Understanding of the collaborative model for strategic planning across sectors to create local system change on a macro-level scale.
+ Collaborating with all units and services provided by Le Sueur County’s human services, public health, probation, community action and headstart partner, local public schools, mental health organizations and providers, and other local partners.
+ Building professional relationships and collaborations within the agency, collaborative partners, and with community organizations and groups.
+ NOTE: This is a Community Outreach Internship that focuses on systems-level social work/public health. No direct, client-specific casework is involved.
Minimum Qualifications and Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Qualified Candidates will possess:
+ Current enrollment in an accredited college pursuing a degree in social work, public health, sociology, psychology or another closely related major.
+ Undergraduates must be in their junior or senior year at the time of internship. Graduate students may apply at any time during their program. BSW or MSW students graduating in Spring 2025 are also welcome to apply.
+ Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher.
+ Ability to commit to minimum of 500 hours for internship. Up to 1000 hours are available.
+ Ability to conduct oneself professionally and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
Potential tasks and responsibilities assigned to this position:
Outreach:
+ Present project and events to groups and individuals, inviting them to attend events and join our planning team.
+ Create Community Resilience Planning Team orientation materials and orient new members of the Community Resilience Planning Team.
+ Conduct 1-on-1 Cups of Coffee interviews with parents, caregivers, and consumers to gain further input from those we aim to serve at a Family Resource Center.
+ Track completed and pending 100 Cups of Coffee Interviews.
Data Analysis:
+ Generate reports and summary data on demographics, out-of-school activities, healthy eating, emotional health, substance use, risk factors, ACEs, connections with school and family, child maltreatment, out-of-home placements, caseloads, and mental health screenings.
+ Create survey templates for distribution.
+ Compile data from community resilience conversation events, 100 Cups of Coffee Interviews, surveys and generate summary level data results to present to Community Resilience Planning Team.
+ Apply and/or create filters to GIS map to visualize population centers against locations of county and area resources for review by the Community Resilience Planning Team.
Marketing:
+ Design social media and print marketing materials to promote events and project.
+ Assist in design and development of written community needs assessment.
Administrative
+ Produce written procedures and guides to use in forming a Parent Advisory Council, Youth Leadership Council or Youth Advisory Group.
+ Produce written procedures and guides to use in operating a Family Resource Center, following Standards of Quality.
Training & Learning Opportunities
+ Visit Family Resource Centers to see different models and learn from others.
+ Attend training on National Family Support Network's Standards of Quality for Family Strengthening and Support.
