Overview
JOB TITLE : DIRECTOR, SAFETY
FUNCTION : This position is responsible for managing, developing, training, and improving client programs in safety, risk management, accident prevention, regulatory compliance, and crisis management for the company .
REPORTS TO : President
KEY ACTIVITIES
+ Visualize , fulfill, and implement the Compan y vision and core values
+ Evaluate internal and external safety environments to ensure processes align with the company’s objectives and policies
+ Control hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through safety management and contacting supervisory personnel
+ Supervise and administer safety/first aid and rescue square activities including work assignments, personnel, administration, staffing, training, etc.
+ D evelop employee and craft safety orientation training program and implement upon completion
+ Conduct work area surveillance inspections, air sampling tests for confined space entry, property damage and personal injury investigations
+ Document all accidents, safety violations , unsafe conditions/activities. Issue confined area entry and “hot work” permits as required .
+ Review documentation in ensure all required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures and implement appropriate corrective action as required .
+ Accompany all safety, health and insurance inspectors on walk through tours. Coordinate/assist in preparing written appeals for safety violation c itations.
+ Liaison with legal, insurance company , HR and safety directors to manage claims related to employee safety
+ Ensure company compliance with all OSHA, MSHA, DOT, etc. regulations through workplace evaluation and data analysis
+ Participate on the Safety Director Leadership Team (SDLT) to ensure safety compliance, evaluate organizational trends, and recommend changes to ensure sustainable growth
+ Serve as a member of the Management Leadership Team ( MLT )
+ Monitor and analyze current safety programs to determine program effectiveness and identify opportunities for growth and improvement
+ Perform risk assessments and job hazard analyses to identify key and emerging risks that could prevent the company from meeting safety objectives
+ Analyze, understand, and communicate all safety metrics
+ Oversee regulatory compliance and associated audits
+ Make recommendations regarding budget and fiscal operations for the Safety and Risk Management D epartment
+ Mitigate risk throughout the company to avoid financial loss through legal action
+ Adhere to company policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook
+ Perform other duties as required
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
+ Working knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations
+ Leadership and consensus building capability
+ Effective written and verbal communication skills
+ Robust conflict management and problem-solving skills
+ Strong, collaborative, energetic individual with a deep personal commitment to the highest standards of ethics, confidentiality, and professionalism
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
+ Bachelor's degree in a related field
+ A minimum of 1 0 years of experience in the safety field, risk management, and loss control
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
+ Medium: exerting up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally
+ Repetitive motion associated with operating a computer and other equipment
+ Able to negotiate various site environments and adverse weather conditions
+ Automotive travel to job sites and work locations as needed
