Position Title: Bus Fleet Technology, Emerging Talent Intern
Hourly Rate: $21.00 (Graduate)
Overview of Department:
The MTA's Dept. of Buses operates the largest bus transit fleet in North America. Several of our Enterprise applications require updates, maintenance, and new features based on user requests. This department work on upgrading or maintaining Yard Trek, our Enterprise bus assignment application. Yard Trek, Bus Trek and other of the group's applications leverage the MTA's Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system to create a real-time information environment that tracks bus assignments, operating characteristics and the buses themselves. Its effectiveness affects our data accuracy in informing the public, our service managers' ability to adjust service, and our own ability to identify operational issues or gaps.
Responsibilities:
+ Design and for workflows, new features, or analyses
+ Design documentation for the above
+ Troubleshooting existing code
+ Coding new features or upgrades
+ Working with, establishing or maintaining server environments in AWS
+ Ad hoc or automated data collection from existing applications for analysis
+ Shepherd those analyses
+ Present or report results, with recommendations for next steps.
Required Qualifications:
Proficiency, Including both academic and practical experience.in:
+ At least one scripting programming language (e.g. JavaScript or Python)
+ At least one front-end suitable programming language (e.g. ReactJS, AngularJS, or JavaScript)
+ At least one back-end programming language, (e.g., Java, C++).
+ Relational Databases and SQL
Strong Facility with:
• MS Office for documentation and calculations.
• At least one drawing tool for diagram creation (e.g., Google Draw, MS PowerPoint)
• Basic understanding of networks, cloud services, and remote computing
Desired skills:
• Experience with Amazon Web Services, or other cloud platforms
• Experience in documenting code, applications, and systems
• Strong analytical skills
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
+ Matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with at least 2.8 GPA
+ Major(s) Preferred: Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related
