Description
We are in search of an experienced HR Director to join our retail team located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As the HR Director, you will be tasked with leading and inspiring the HR team, managing employee relations, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role will require you to oversee the complete range of recruitment efforts and handle various HR policies to ensure a positive and supportive work environment for all employees.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the development, performance management, training, and process improvement of the HR team to ensure excellence across all aspects.
• Provide expert guidance to Employee Relations Manager and Company Leadership on employee relations matters, handling performance issues, promotions, disciplinary actions, and legal compliance.
• Ensure the company stays ahead of all local, state, and federal mandates, implementing best practices in HR policy to minimize risk and maximize compliance.
• Manage and negotiate with vendors for benefit program management.
• Lead the management and optimization of competitive compensation and benefits that drive retention and attract top talent, balancing business needs with market realities.
• Utilize your deep expertise in labor relations to formulate and recommend policies around union/management relations. Lead the company’s position in union contract negotiations and represent management in collective bargaining issues and agreements.
• Administer grievance procedures and union disciplinary actions with efficiency and precision, ensuring that all actions align with the terms of the union contract, state and federal laws, and company policy.
• Collaborate with the executive team to provide strategic guidance on policies, procedures, and organizational development initiatives that enhance our corporate culture and employee experience.
• Design and deliver impactful training programs that align with company needs, focusing on leadership development, performance management, communication skills, and customer service training in partnership with operations leadership.
An ideal candidate will have 10+ years of combined HR experience, including a minimum of 3 years experience at the director-level, in addition to 5 years of supervisory experience. Bachelors Degree in Business, Human Resources, or similar is required. Additional certifications such as SHRM are preferred, but not required.
Beginning compensation for this role is $100-115k, depending on qualifications. Full, comprehensive benefits are also available including health, dental, vision, 401k, and PTO.

Requirements • Proficiency in Human Capital Management (HCM) and Human Resource Management Systems (HRMS)
• Comprehensive knowledge of benefit functions within the retail industry
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
• A strong understanding of compliance and legal requirements in human resources
• Experience working with C-Suite executives and building strategic HR plans
• Proven ability in managing employee relations and resolving conflicts
• Familiarity with UKG Pro or similar HR software
• Expertise in compensation and benefits, including administration, analysis, and benchmarking
• Experience in handling union contracts, grievances, and dues
• Demonstrated ability in employee performance management and improvement strategies
• Knowledge of HR compliance and ability to ensure company-wide adherence
• Experience in employee training and development programs
• Proven track record in corporate recruiting and talent acquisition
• Ability to conduct employee relations investigations and resolve issues effectively
• Experience in labor employee relations within the retail industry
• Proven ability in HR policy development, implementation, and guideline setting.
