Essential Job Functions
AnEngineering Aid II, Public Works is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential functions.
+ Provides information requested by the public at public counters such as hydrologic data, locations on maps, construction specifications and drawings and information of a similar nature.
+ Maintains schedule boards and compiles reports of schedule progress on projects working from reports of recorded time and monies expended.
+ Updates related charts and graphs and as directed extracts data from records for special reports.
+ Assembles job data pouches by pulling records of designated surveys.
+ Prepares final ink tracings of engineering designs requiring the transfer of data, organization of sheet layouts, and printing of title blocks.
+ Makes ink drawings of street and channel profiles and cross sections.
+ Plots contours and station distances as required.
+ Determines irregular areas by use of planimeter or computational software packages and calculates volumes of materials using prescribed and standardized procedures.
+ Redraws maps to new scales exercising a knowledge of proportional relationships. depicts boundaries, location of sewer lines, roads, water mains and pertinent related information.
Requirements
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
15 semester or equivalent quarter units of accredited college engineering, geographic information systems (GIS)/cartography or physical science* courses including courses in drafting, college algebra and trigonometry.
* Physical science encompasses any of the sciences, such as physics, chemistry, geology, geography, and earth science that analyze the nature and properties of energy and nonliving matter.
PHYSICAL EXPECTATIONS:
Physical Class II – Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

EVALUATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (T&E)
General Information
This Training & Experience (T&E) Questionnaire is a self-assessment. You will respond to questions about your experience related to having acquired the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform theEngineering Aid IIposition. All information that you provide is subject to verification. The assessment will evaluate the following competencies:
1. Professional/Technical Knowledge of engineering principles- Basic knowledge of engineering principles (e.g., mathematics, physics, understanding proportional relationships) to assist higher level engineering staff in carrying out studies and projects.
2. Professional/Technical Knowledge of drafting techniques– Basic Knowledge of preparation of designs, plans and specifications.
3. Customer Service- Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others. Shows interest and understands the needs, expectations, and circumstances of internal and external customers. Explores options and pursues solutions until customers are satisfied. Is responsive, pleasant, and professional. Puts self in customer's shoes. Looks at the organization and the services provided from the customer's point of view. Relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations. Is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.
4. Technology Application– Ability to work with desktop software, internet, and applicable software programs. Utilizes applicable software programs (e.g., Outlook, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, etc.) to carry out tasks. Effectively organizes electronic information (e.g., creating, documenting, maintaining, and filing electronic and hardcopy records, data, charts, graphs, and files). Learns new version of relevant software and how to use new features and functions.
5. Problem Sensitivity- The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
