The role you’ll contribute:
Primary responsibility is to provide Clinical Pharmacy Services, coordination and supervision of pharmacy technicians, sterile and non-sterile compounding areas, and oversight of competencies and policies required for regulatory and quality standards of practice.** **Collaboratively oversees and coordinates process improvement initiatives for the central operations of the main hospital pharmacy, the sterile operations of the cleanroom pharmacy, and the satellite operations throughout the institution.** **Assists with oversight of day-to-day operations including personnel assignments and activities, medication dispensing processes, pharmacy automation, and medication inventory to ensure effective and timely provision of pharmacy services and medication therapy.** **Supports medication procurement and utilization and facilitates evidence-based medication use and purchasing of pharmaceuticals across all pharmacy areas.** **Provides education to staff, enforces departmental and institutional policies, and initiate development plans as needed to assure regulatory compliance and optimal service standards.** **Actively manages human, capital, and operational resources to collaboratively support patient care services, medication safety systems, regulatory compliance initiatives, and quality assurance programs throughout the Department of Pharmacy.** **Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
1. Serve as regional operations liaison to work closely with campus pharmacy leaders (directors of pharmacy, managers, supervisors, buyers), including coordinating divisional operational initiatives to support campus departments of pharmacy
2. Design and coordinate initiatives to improve pharmacy scorecard performance at campus and divisional level
3. Lead and manage initiatives that support medication inventory optimization and campus medication perpetual inventory workflow and accuracy
4. Design and manage regional programs to expand medication dispensing/access at interfaces of acute care and outpatient encounters (OSED Retail Kiosks, etc.)
5. Oversee the organization and operations of the Simulation training laboratory
6. Oversee and manage the LEAD program
7. Support the pharmacist float pool including scheduling of employees contained within the float pool
8. Support policy creation and maintenance
9. Staffing - Monthly campus based staffing assignment
Pharmacy Practice and Operations Management
Supervises operational, clinical, and regulatory compliance programs in assigned pharmacy areas to ensure accurate and timely medication distribution, optimizes medication utilization, minimize product waste, maximize inventory turns, optimize pharmacy supply use, and maximize staff productivity.
Establishes standards of practice and environmental standards consistent with contemporary hospital practices, patient-centered clinical services, traditional therapeutics, professional principles, and innovations in pharmacy.
Oversees maintenance needs of compounding areas including temperature, pressure, humidity, of compounding rooms and Laminar Flow Hood/Biological Safety Cabinet functionality.
Leads initiatives to organize space, equipment, and services to meet the needs of patients and other customers.
Leads initiatives and programs to ensure medication preparation and distribution systems are aligned with evidence based best practices, are suitable to meet the patient care needs of assigned services and areas are compliant with all healthcare regulatory requirements and applicable state and federal laws.
Leads initiatives and programs to maintain pharmacy operational areas and medication management programs in constant state of survey readiness for all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
Assists with preparation of an annual budget and manages assigned budgets and financial resources including stewardship, cost control, and restriction/surveillance programs.
Effectively collaborates with other hospital departments by personal contact, by committee membership, and by memorandum to promote cooperation and efficiency in providing patient's pharmacy care needs.
Serves as a communication link with pharmacy staff, leaders of other pharmacy practice areas, and leaders across the pharmacy system.
Coordinates clinical and operational resource management monitoring.
Labor Management
Develops standards of performance, for pharmacy technicians, to maximize staff roles in accordance with licensure.
Provides feedback regarding job performance of employees as required.
Maintains competent, skilled, and cooperative staff by coordinating training for new employees, coaching, and mentoring of all employees, and routine professional development for all pharmacy technician staff.
Pharmacist Staffing and Clinical Services
Actively performs all pharmacist functions and maintains active proficiency by staffing in operational and clinical programs, participating in dispensing and compounding activities, utilizing hospital computer systems and medication ordering systems, following established standard work parameters, and maintaining standard work environments.
Works as an active member of operations and/or clinical pharmacy team to collaborate with healthcare providers and decentralized pharmacy staff, place practice priority on the delivery of patient-centered care, and provide accurate, safe, timely, and appropriate medication therapy based on patient needs
Performance Improvement and Quality Outcomes Management
Maintains expertise in sterile compounding processes.
Monitors operational performance, patient care services, cost containment activities, and budgetary performance via objective parameters.
Proactively uses data analysis techniques to track, monitor, and communicate the operational, clinical quality, and financial outcomes of assigned areas and to benchmark performance against internal targets and against local and national best practices.
Identifies, resolves, and reports short- and long-term obstacles to patient care and medication safety, regulatory compliance, or stewardship of resources.
Designs pharmacy initiatives to maximize operational efficiency and integrates efficiency methodologies such as justin-time (JIT) manufacturing as well as Lean, Six Sigma, and standard work principles into pharmacy distribution systems.
Designs and implements new pharmacy programs, quality improvement changes, and continuous quality assurance initiatives to advance the organization's medication-use systems and promote optimal patient outcomes.
Facilitates the update and maintenance of medication-related and pharmacy-related policies and procedures and prospectively assesses new processes and policies for appropriateness and compliance to defined standards.
Professional Practice Advancement
Maintains a sustained record of contribution to the total body of knowledge in pharmacy practice through internal/external presentations, publications, formal review for a peer-reviewed medical or pharmacy journal, and/or professional organization service.
Maintains a high professional profile and active membership in state and national pharmacy professional organizations
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Doctorate - of Pharmacy degree
3 years of Contemporary hospital pharmacy practice experience
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist
