The sewing machine operator operates standard or special industrial sewing machines to perform multiple operations in joining parts of fabricated articles. The operations performed are repetitive, and a steady pace, accuracy, and quality are the principal requirements. The sewing machine operator is responsible for the quality of caps sewn according to company and customer specifications.

Responsibilities

* Sewing fabric and other raw material components together utilizing multiple and various sewing machines and other equipment utilized to construct baseball caps.

* Set up the machine with appropriate raw materials (i.e. thread, taping, bobbins, etc.) to perform a specific operation.

* Positions parts to be joined under pressure foot and needle and lower presser foot.

* Starts, stops, and controls the speed of the machine, using a foot pedal.

* Guides parts under needle, using fingers and hands, and following edges, seams, guides on machine bed, or markings on part.

* Observes stitching to detect defects and notifies supervisor when defects are caused by machine malfunction.

* Selects sewing parts and supplies, such as taping, haircloth, fronts, backs, peak boards, eyelets, sizing, labels, and other supplies according to specifications.

* Oils machine, changes needles, and secures attachments to the machine as needed.

* Counts and stacks parts.

* Keeps all sensitive matters confidential.

* Other duties as assigned including cross-training on various sewing machines and equipment as required.

* Ability to perform repetitive operations, maintaining speed and accuracy to achieve daily and weekly production requirements.

* Ability to consistently reach minimum production requirements

* Proven attention to detail and accuracy.

* Ability to perform basic Mathematical skills and ability to read and understand measurements.

* Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception

* Ability to stand or sit for scheduled work hours.

* Ability to repetitively lift, carry, and position objects weighing up to 30 lbs.

* Able to work overtime, including Saturdays if needed.

* Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions (appropriate footwear).

Education and Experience

* Sewing experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
