Abilities First is seeking a Curriculum Coordinator for our School & Preschool programs in Dutchess and Orange Counties. The Curriculum Coordinator at Abilities First School is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the school’s educational programs. This role requires a deep understanding of the needs of students with disabilities and the ability to design and adapt curriculum to meet individual learning goals, while aligning with state standards and the specific regulations governing 853 schools. The Curriculum Coordinator will collaborate with the director of education, principals, teachers, and other school staff to ensure effective instruction and student progress.
This is a full time position, 40 hours per week for 52 weeks.
Salary: $70,000.00 - $74,000.00 per year
Position Standards:
+ Curriculum Development & Implementation
+ Lead the development, evaluation, and revision of curriculum for students with disabilities.
+ Ensure the curriculum is designed to meet individual student needs, in alignment with IEPs (Individualized Education Plans), and reflects best practices in special education.
+ Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt and modify instructional materials and strategies to support diverse learners.
+ Ensure differentiated instruction techniques are being delivered to support various learning styles and abilities.
+ Staff Support & Professional Development
+ Provide ongoing guidance and training to teaching staff regarding effective instructional strategies, curriculum implementation, and best practices for students with disabilities.
+ Assist in the development and delivery of professional development opportunities for educators, including workshops and in-service training.
+ Support teachers in the use of assistive technology and other resources to enhance student learning.
+ Assessment & Evaluation
+ Develop and oversee the assessment framework for measuring student progress, including formative and summative assessments.
+ Analyze data from student assessments and evaluations to monitor academic progress and identify areas for improvement.
+ Work with building leadership, teachers adjust the curriculum and instructional strategies based on assessment results and student feedback.
+ Collaboration & Communication
+ Collaborate with the Director of Education, Principals, staff, and related service providers to ensure alignment of curriculum with IEP goals and objectives.
+ Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress, curriculum changes, and educational strategies.
+ Participate in CSE/CPSE meeting as required.
+ Participate in IEP meetings as necessary and assist in the development of individualized instructional plans as needed.
+ Program Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
+ Regularly assess the effectiveness of the school’s curriculum and make recommendations for improvements.
+ Stay current on trends, research, and developments in special education, curriculum design, and instructional strategies.
+ Foster a culture of continuous improvement, actively seeking feedback from staff, students, and families to enhance educational outcomes.
+ Compliance & Reporting
+ Ensure the school’s curriculum aligns with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
+ Maintain documentation related to curriculum development, assessment results, and professional development activities.
+ Support the school’s compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing special education.

Requirements
+ Master's degree in education, Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field (required).
+ Certification in Special Education.
+ Minimum of 3 years of experience working with students with disabilities, ideally in an 853 or similar setting.
+ Strong understanding of the New York State education standards and regulations, especially as they pertain to 853 schools.
+ Proven experience in curriculum development, instructional strategies, and educational assessment.
+ Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams of educators, administrators, and families.
+ Knowledge of current trends, research, and best practices in special education and curriculum design.

+ Have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, squat, bend the knees, pivot, and grasp with both hands (in order to properly and safely perform the techniques taught in CPR/First Aid, behavior intervention techniques, and lifting and carrying techniques).
+ Lift individuals by using appropriate techniques, including but not limited to usage of tools to assist, such as the Hoyer Lift.
+ Assist individuals in ambulation by providing physical assistance, including use of a gait belt or other equipment where necessary.
+ Have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
+ Have the ability to push, pull, and maneuver individuals in wheelchairs.
+ Possess verbal and written communication skills, in English, to ensure adequate regulatory documentation.
