Summary As a Certified Professional Controller (CPC) in a Level 9 Tower with Radar facility, incumbent is responsible for the safe, orderly, and expeditious flow of air traffic. Responsibilities Provides separation for aircraft operating under IFR and VFR procedures from other aircraft landing, departing and/or overflying within their designated airspace. Operates radar and communication equipment to apply radar separation standards and vectoring procedures. Detects and adjusts malfunctions and interferences in the equipment. Issues speed, altitude, and directional instructions to pilots to keep aircraft properly separated. Provides air traffic advisory services to pilots including clearances to operate aircraft, weather and field conditions, and safety and traffic alerts. Provides training to developmental air traffic controllers and other employees in the facility. Performs the technical functions associated with training, briefings, quality assurance, and the technical functions of staff support specialists. Provides watch supervision for the continuous operation of a facility or area where a supervisor is not available. Works under direct supervision at the outset of each new assignment. When certified on the required position(s) of operation, the CPC independently performs the described duties under general supervision. Qualifications Basic qualifications for Certified Professional Controller (CPC) positions in the terminal and en route options: Specialized Experience Required for CPC Positions: Must have been facility rated or area certified in an ATO terminal/en route facility. Rating and Evaluation Criteria: In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, candidates will be rated in accordance with the instructions on FAA Form 3330-43-1 (dated 6/00), Rating of Air Traffic Experience for AT Movement. Quality Ranking Factor - Previously certified at Washington National Tower (DCA) is preferred. This is a temporary position not-to-exceed one year. If this position remains temporary, upon completion of this assignment, the selected employee shall return to his/her original permanent position or an equivalent position in the same commuting area. Early Retirement: Position is covered under P.L. 92-297 for early retirement purposes. Requirement for Physical Certificate: The person selected for this position must maintain medical clearance.
